Dr. Thomas P. Whelan, MD

Very nice man however I have had C-DIFF 4 times second time this Dr did this to me did the prep my son lost a day of work he lives hour and a half away the nurse told me the day before to stop the vancomycin they prep me all set to go then he tells me and my son he wont do it I said to him you maid me drink all that prep now I'm all set he says now then he tells me when I'm off the vancomycin he will put me on the VIP list F him I will never ever see him again he is nothing but a Hammond egger also his office staff are extremely rude

I've seen Dr. Whelan numerous times over the years. I've primarily seen him for my colonoscopy. Last year he did an endoscopy also due to some symptoms I was having. I read some of the reviews (negative) that were on the site, and I was very surprised to read them. I've never encountered any of those types of issues (shouting, being evasive, hanging up on me, etc.) Dr. Whelan has always been outgoing and friendly, even telling jokes when preparing for the colonoscopy, trying to get you to relax. He's thorough in reporting the results of any exam and he spends time explaining the findings.

This doctor was on call when we had a major emergency with our daughter. After waiting an hour for call back, he literally screamed at me on the phone to STOP TALKING, and let the emergency department deal with it. I needed to ensure she'd receive a GI consult there, but he wouldn't allow me to ask, yelled he was busy and I hung up. Hoping I never meet this shameful man in person.

Knowledgable and very caring. Not into computers and I think he told me that he doesn't have or watch TV. I also recall that he told me that "insulin is poison". I have T2D. For me, Dr Whelan focused on material diet changes, fruits and veggies, low carbs, which I don't dispute at all. He was excellent in his follow-up calls. In my mind there is no doubt that he is thorough, diligent, competent and caring.

After performing certain tests, Dr. Whelan provided a diagnosis about which he would not be definitive and specific in writing, because he said he was concerned about being questioned about it by attorneys if it ever came to that. He seems to be more concerned about being involved in potential lawsuits, even if not directed at him, than he does about his patients. We called him about it, and had to wait almost a month for him to return our phone call. Very dissatisfied with him as a medical care provider.

I only saw Dr Whelan a few times, but found him to be abrupt and rude. He's a good doctor when it comes down to diagnosis (if you can get him to believe you that something is wrong!), but his personality was just far too difficult to deal with, so I have not been back to see him. I found a specialist in NYC (a bit of a trip, but worth it) instead.
