Dr. Tiari Avakian Harris

Dr. Harris was very understanding and was interested in the root cause of my pain.

TL;DR Dr. Harris prescribed drugs with serious contraindications accidentally multiple times. She also seems to dismiss people with history of drug abuse even when in recovery for multiple years. I visited Dr. Harris to file forms for FMLA intermittent leave. I have been having repeated nightmares and insomnia since my parents both passed away 8 months ago. She started the appointment by asking about the medication phentermine she had written me a prescription for previously. I told her I took it for 3 days felt terrible and stopped taking it when I did my research and found out that it had serious contraindications to the drug anafranil I am also prescribed. She then spoke as if she didn't know I was on that medication even though it was plainly printed in her chart. I told her that I am prescribed the anafranil for a off label use to treat issues caused by a previous opioid addiction and that I had been clean for almost 4 years now. Within the next minute she asks if I am… still using, in reference to my current issues I am having with nightmares. I felt offended by this question seeing that I had just told her about my past voluntarily and had said how long I had been clean. After this she seemed to be very dismissive about my claims saying the nightmares are "not like cancer" and not quantifiable to estimate the amount of leave I would need. She mentions that she wants to treat me for depression and suggests wellbutrin, before I am able to discuss the medication with her she leaves the room and says she'll be right back when asked for a diagnosis code from a nurse. This is about 5 min into our scheduled 45min appointment. Dr. Harris never returns, a nurse then returns telling me the the doctor is very busy and unable to finish the appointment but had wrote a prescription for an antidepressant she wanted me to take for 2 weeks and come back and would fill out the FMLA to the "best of her abilities". With only 2 minutes on google I was able to find that wellbutrin can have vivid dreams and nightmares and has serious contraindications with anafranil and should not be prescribed together. This is the second medication in a row that she prescribed me that has dangerous interactions with my Anafranil! Both times I had to learn that for myself! The following morning I recieve a denial letter for my FMLA request due to paperwork not being submitted. I call Care ATC and find out that has now decided to not fill out the paperwork and denied my request due to "insufficient data being gathered from patient". This is after she left 5 minutes into our 45 min appointment. Please save yourself the headache of this physician. I wanted to like her, but she made dangerous decisions with my health by prescribing dangerous drug combinations multiple times, and from my view was dismissive of me once I divulged my history with addiction. Having her degree from one of the most conservative christian universities in the state, I can only imagine she has very biased views that do not belong in medical profession. This statement is a personal assumption but all other claims can be proven with documentation

She treats, listens, talks to you like a human being not just a body needing to be processed. She is no nonsense and shoots it to you straight. Good energy about her.
