Dr. Tom Hong, MD

This practice was completely unprofessional and negligent in my case. I have extremely painful carpel tunnel and although shots do help, they don't help for long. The pain at night especially utterly excruciating. Therefore I need surgery. I was given a date 5 months ago and Dr. Hong canceled it because his office said he was "going out of town". Rescheduled for the following month and that had to be canceled because of COVID-19. Then he himself rescheduled my 3rd surgery appointment. I get another call from his office saying "he's going out of town". For each scheduled surgery a patient has to coordinate with their job to take the appropriate time off for recovery. We don't get paid during that time if it's not job related. I've lost a lot of income due to his canceling my surgeries with the reasoning that he's "going out of town"...a point I made to his assistant plus the fact that I am now in pain again and told her that. His assistant tells me she's going to call me on Monday… with his new schedule to make sure he's not taking any vacation time during that month. She never called. I wrote to him directly through My Chart asking his thoughts on this matter.... No response. I have never once been treated this poorly by any doctor in my life. It's completely unprofessional and it's a dereliction of duty. Shame!

This is a great practice! The receptionist and nurses were very nice and informative. Dr. Hong is a wonderful doctor. He took his time and answered all of our questions. Definitely recommend.

Dr. Hong took an oath to only benefit himself not his patients. He prioritizes being right >>>patient needs. Staff is rude and disrespectful as well. Absolutely the worst!

Doc Hong is the best. He gives honest opinions and findings. He takes an interest in his patients.

Dr Tom Hong at Sentara Hand Surgeons was not compassionate or helpful when he saw my son recently for a wrist/ hand problem. Dr Hong's attitude was nonchalant and uncaring when my son expressed how much pain he's having. He did absolutely nothing to help my son. At one point, Dr Hong said that he didn't know why we came to see him, as he's a hand surgeon. I told him that his website says he has a special interest in wrists. Obviously, the website is wrong.We had to convince Dr Hong to order an MRI because the XRay only showed an old fracture. Then when my son got there to do the MRI- Dr Hong hade not even ordered the MRI to include the wrist and Hand. So my son has to pay for an MRI of his hand only, when the wrist is his main problem. We tried to schedule the follow up appointment with Dr Shah in his group, but we were told that Dr Shah agrees with the treatment that Dr Hong recommends, so we'd have to go to a different group to see a new hand surgeon. It seems really ridiculous that… Dr Shah could agree with Dr Hong's treatment, when there was no treatment given. Dr Hong was one of the least caring doctors I've ever met.

He listened, was thorough in his exam, and provided appropriate treatment for my condition. Staff was outstanding. He even saw me the same day I called.
