Trilokesh Kidambi, MD

Trilokesh D. Kidambi, M.D., is a gastroenterologist with expertise in general gastroenterology and, in particular, colorectal cancer prevention and the evaluation and management of individuals with a family history of gastrointestinal cancer, including those with a hereditary cancer syndrome, such as Lynch syndrome and familial adenomatous polyposis. He specializes in the management of general gastroenterology diseases, as well as the diagnosis and management of complications of cancer treatments and therapies, such as graft-versus-host disease after stem cell transplantation and immunotherapy-mediated colitis and enteritis. He also performs advanced gastroenterological procedures such as enteral stenting and ERCP procedures.His areas of clinical research include colorectal cancer screening and prevention, interventions to improve endoscopy quality, the use of personalized precision medicine in the treatment of cancer patients, and genetics, screening and prevention in hereditary …gastrointestinal syndromes. His specific work has included conducting a randomized controlled trial on interventions to improve adenoma detection during colonoscopy, in addition to multiple studies examining aspects of hereditary cancer syndromes.He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and received scholarships for his work from the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA) and the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG). He has presented his research at national meetings and serves as a reviewer of research articles for major gastroenterology journals.Dr. Kidambi grew up in Claremont, California, and became interested in pursuing a career in medical research as a teenager after spending two summers in the lab of Rama Natarajan, Ph.D., the National Business Products Industry Endowed Chair in Diabetes Research at Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope as part of the Eugene and Ruth Roberts Summer Student Academy.He officially entered the medical field as a part of Northwestern University’s prestigious Honors Program in Medical Education. Through this seven-year longitudinal program, he graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree in economics (awarded James Alton James scholar for top undergraduate in economics) and earned his medical degree from Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, where he graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. Dr. Kidambi completed his internal medicine residency at University of California, San Francisco, where he was honored as the top clinical researcher in his residency class. He then completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at University of California, San Francisco, where he gained specific training in endoscopic mucosal resection of complex polyps, inflammatory bowel disease and gastrointestinal cancer genetics.Since joining City of Hope, Dr. Kidambi has been instrumental in the growth of the gastroenterology division and is a key collaborator with the hematological and medical oncologists. His academic and administrative interests focus on delivering the highest quality care to City of Hope patients, and he led the effort for the gastrointestinal endoscopy program to be awarded the quality star as an honoree in the Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program from the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.Dr. Kidambi is a member of the AGA, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the ACG and a panel member on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s Colon cancer screening committee.
