He then attended the University of North Dakota Medical School where he received his Master's degree in biochemistry and his Doctorate in medicine. After medical school, he spent five years training at Grand Rapids Orthopaedic Residency in Grand Rapids, MI. He then completed a one-year fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, PA in hand and microvascular surgery. He joined the Bone and Joint Center in 1998.
