Dr. Vanitha L Bala, MD

My husband ended up in the ER at Memorial Hermann, The Woodlands. During his recovery I asked nurses for recommendations for a gastro doctor for myself. The nurses told me Dr. Bala was their choice. The nurses were correct. Dr Bala has given me outstanding medical care, filled with compassion. I have great confidence in her.

As a former health professional, to say I am peculiar when choosing a provider is an understatement. I do my research, as well as schedule a consultation visit to discuss my issues, ask questions, and decide whether to continue with their service. After being told that I may or may not have severe problem with my esophagus, I was pretty anxious about what might be found through the endoscopy. Dr Bala was and is always professional, yet very personal. She senses and sees the anxiety and with a most calming voice, offers reassurance that whatever the results are, we will work together for what is best. She is extremely knowledgeable, and suggests lifestyle changes that will contribute to your well-being and health. I knew I needed to change what I ate and be healthier all together. She took the time EVERY visit to ensure, and reassure me about all she was doing to provide the best care for me. I had to do my part as well and she was my cheerleader encouraging me each visit. She… performed both my endoscopy and colonoscopy, my first mind you. I felt completely at ease and peace knowing she was taking care of me. I have since moved from the area, however I am due for another endoscopy later this year. I live 700 miles away, in a very healthcare oriented city, and I will be traveling back to Dr Bala for my procedure. Why? Because I'm peculiar and want the best.

I visited Dr Bala not long before my colonostopy. That made me uneasy. But by her words her smile and gentle hands. I feel NO pain. I was nervous before she walked in colonostopy room. When I saw her again I could rest easy. She us truly an Angel. I will be back in time recommend by Dr Bala. Trust me. She is THE BEST. I wanted to spread the word. My first colonostopy couldn't have been more pleasant. Thank u Dr Bala

On the day of my appointment, Dr. Vanitha Bala's assistant called me to see if I could come in early. So I did. When I got there, I was seen right away, even before I could fill out the new patient paperwork. Dr. Vanitha Bala spent about 3 minutes with me. The majority of that time telling me how "morbidly obese" I am and trying to convince me to get a gastric sleeve surgery, which was NOT why I was there. Dr. Vanitha Bala told me she wanted to do a colonoscopy, but before that, I would have to be cleared by a cardiologist (due to my "morbid obesity") and I would have to have a CAT Scan. She also told me that I had a fatty liver and most likely had cirrhosis of the liver (due to my "morbid obesity"). She made this determination without doing any tests. All this, in under 3 minutes. Apparently, it was up to me to find a cardiologist and to call about a CAT Scan. When I was paying my $155 bill, I asked the lady at the front desk if they had any recommendations for cardiologists and if… someone could explain what Dr. Vanitha Bala obviously didn't have time to explain. She went to ask Dr. Vanitha Bala, but the doctor had already left the building. That explained why her assistant called to have me come in early and why the doctor's visit was so rushed, Dr. Vanitha Bala had better places to be. The lady at the front desk tried to help me as best she could. She told me that the reason Dr. Vanitha Bala wanted me to get a CAT Scan was that I had complained about severe abdominal pain. I told her that was incorrect because I had not had ANY abdominal pain. She also told me that the reason I was not given any recommendations for a cardiologist was that I had refused to see a cardiologist or have a CAT Scan done. Once again, I told her that was incorrect. They must have gotten my file mixed up with someone else's in their rush to leave. I left Dr. Vanitha Bala's office feeling confused, humiliated and ripped off. I do not recommend Dr. Vanitha Bala in the least. The ONLY reason I'm giving Dr. Vanitha Bala one star is because I can't submit this review without giving a star rating.

She is very patient and takes time in discussing the treatment plan. Will definitely go back.

She clearly explained the procedures...afterwards she readily let me know issues we had to watch and why. She prescribed medication that had pretty much kept my condition in check although I am due for follow up procedures which were also clearly recommended. I am very comfortable with every aspect of her care and will return soon.

Dr Bala is an excellent physician. She spent time with me and clearly explained my diagnosis and treatment plan. I would recommend to everyone!!
