Dr. Venubabu Kandimalla, MD

This doctor has the worst bedside manner I've ever witnessed. My 74-year old mother was admitted under his care unfortunately for several days at Clinton UMass Memorial Hospital. He was shockingly rude, strangely vague and evasive as he would barely answer any of our questions regarding her care and status. He just kept running tests on my mother, never wanting to talk beyond 5 minutes and barely checked up on her at all. When we asked about any details on the tests he was running, he actually told us (three grown daughters in their thirties), you don't need to know, it will "scare us." When we asked to be updated on the Endocrinologist and Neuro specialists recommended for her in the hospital notes by the previous attending doctor, all Kandimalla said about this was - Oh no specialists available, I'm just speaking to "friends." Where we asked ? But he refused to elaborate anymore on that. Was it simply a bad attitude ? Sexism? A horrible regard for this patients ? Who knows. But the… cherry on top was how patronizingly he addressed my mother's just because her first language isn't English even though she told him she understood perfectly (and given that she's lived in America now 45 years). The most ironic and odd thing is that Kandimalla struggles to communicate in English himself. At one point he called for a virtual interpreter that my mother already said she did not need and preceded to address her monosyllabically in the most patronizing tone I've ever seen a doctor use. At that point, even the interpreter ended up abruptly hanging up on him.
