Dr. Victor Weitzel Varela, MD

Had a very negative experience with Dr Varela. I came to the ER where he performed a surgery. Two days later I developed a high fever, I called the on-call number and happened to get him. For no reason at all he was extremely rude & defensive. Said he would not prescribe antibiotics, it wasn't caused by the surgery and told me I could just go to the ER. I went to another Dr. & yeah, of course it was an infection from the surgery. Everyone else was beyond nice at the hospital, but Dr. Varela has to be one of the biggest jerks I've ever had the misfortune of meeting, which is sad for someone that's supposed to provide care for people.

I've had the honor of getting Dr. Varela twice now for surgeries. He placed my port in 2017 when diagnosed with cancer. I actually get compliments from nurses about how well it's placed and barely noticeable. I have to point out the faint line so they know where to feel for it. Beautiful work. Secondly he removed part of my intestine and it has healed nicely as well. It was during this last hospital stay that I saw his commitment to me as a patient and my care as struggled with my notification of the cancer's return and post care as he monitored my progress while in the hospital. He came to the hospital on his day off several times. He's a quiet man but a wonderful bed side manner. I had the peace knowing that I was in great hands. He consulted with other doctor's and brought back the information to me and we discussed my care plan. I was aware of the issues and he even drew me pictures to help be understand more clearly. I never doubted his ability and skills. I find him to be… endearing, and very skilled. I can't thank him enough for his excellent care and dedication to his craft.

He was very truthful and explained the risks and possible problems that may occur. He gave me all my options and let me make the decision that would best suit me instead of pressuring me into a surgery that wasn't an emergency.
