Dr. Victoria Samuels

A very, very poor attitude, I will not be returning and I will not recommend to any friends, coworkers or strangers!

I first met Dr. Samuels at L&M Hospital in New London Ct. This was before she left to practice in NC. In a nut shell, she is the best. Always felt comfortable with her. The thing that stood out the most was the time she took with you. She is very kind and understanding. I wish she was still here. Karen Rowland

I absolutely loved Mrs. Sameul! She did my neck surgery back in 2011, and to this day I can still enjoy my life and work without any pain and without being on pain medication. I was living in Connecticut when she done my surgery. Now I'm back in my home state of Louisiana. I talk highly about her when I am asked about my how I feel after having neck surgery. She was very upfront and honest about everything, and she actually listens to you. Very happy with everything.

My sister recently was referred to Dr. Samuels for a lower back problem. On her initial visit she was told that she could not be seen that day because they had no open appointments. My sister was in extreme pain and insisted something had to be done. They then sent her over for a MRI, but offered no relief for her pain. That was on a Thursday. She had the MRI done that day and was told she would have to come back that next Monday for an appointment with Dr. Samuels for the results. That Monday she went to her appointment and was told that Dr. Samuels was in surgery and she would have to see the physician assistant. The physician assistant was absolutely no help and could or would not go over the results of the MRI. My sister was told she would have to come back later in the week for another appointment. A few days later my sister went back and was told she would have to pay another copay to see Dr. Samuels. My sister told them she had paid her copay a few days before to see… Dr. Samuels but she was not in. She told them she would not pay again since she never seen the doctor and the PA that she did see was of no help. They insisted she had to pay again, since this was another separate visit. My sister refused and the receptionist simply smiled and said "we will just bill you." My sister told them they could bill her all they wanted but she was not paying again. She then went in to see Dr. Samuels who never even looked at the MRI or bothered to go over the report of the results with her. She only asked her to get up on a exam table and when my sister was unable to, Dr. Samuels told her that didn't make any sense and told her she was going to refer her to a neurologist, because her area of interest was the brain and tumors associated with it an the neck area. Why in the world would she even be referred to her in the first place? Why would a neurosurgeon defer to a neurologist? I am currently under the care of a neurosurgeon myself and have just recently had a three level fusion down from L3 to S1. This after two Microdiscectomies had eventually failed. I asked my neurosurgeon why he or any other neurosurgeon would have to defer to a neurologist? He was adamant in saying that he never had or would. He said that it was perfectly understandable if a neurosurgeon deferred to another neurosurgeon or even a orthopedic surgeon, if something was out of their area of expertise. Going from a neurosurgeon to a neurologist however was taking an unnecessary step backwards, because all the neurologist can do is diagnose and refer to a surgeon. This in my opinion was very unprofessional on Dr. Samuels part and shows why healthcare charges are through the roof. Unnecessary visits to specialist, who usually are very close colleagues or friends, who pad each others pockets. My sister has decided not to go to the neurologist that Dr. Samuels was going to refer her to, since it was at the same hospital system. She is going to try to go to a specialist in the Raleigh-Durham area, since there are more of them to choose from than Goldsboro.

my back surgery 1000% successful

Dr. Samuels performed an ACDF on me and I'm very pleased with the outcome. She has been very good to work with and was very informative.

Best Doctor I have ever had.

I had a herniated disc at my L5/S1 and was using a cane to walk for several months. Dr. Samuels got my MRI results and was very upfront with me. We discussed surgery, which I was very nervous about, she made me feel comfortable and confident that surgery was my best option to get relief. During my surgery, a piece of calcified bone, aprx 5-6mm long, was wedged in between my vertabrae which was not on the MRI. Dr. Samuels removed this piece of bone and fixed my disc with minimal pain and an incision less than 2 inches long. She talked to my husband while I was in recovery and explained the procedure thoroughly and why it took longer than anticipated. I was in the hospital 3 days and followed up with her over a period of 3 months. I have Degenerative Disc Disease and will always have lower back pain/issues, but I am grateful to her for helping me to be able to walk without a cane. She is a fantastic surgeon and cares about her patients. I highly recommend her and if I ever need back… surgery again, she will be the one I go to, wherever she may be.

Straight forward, tells it like it is, will answer questions

Dr Samuels used me as a experiment and 18 years later my neck is fuseing more. I'm now disabled and can't turn my neck. I even tried to see her 6 months after surgery. Her front desk said that the doctor says there is nothing else she can do. She was in Columbia, SC at the time. She wouldn't even see me. Don't fuse your neck! There are nurosurgeons who are against it because of bone overgrowth.
