Dr. Vijay Chechani, MD

I would give this doctor 0 stars if I could. he was horrible to my mother as a first time patient rude and condescending. You definitely get the vibe he doesn’t care for his lung patients. Why even be a doctor when you act like you don’t care about anyone. He would ask a question then when my mother went to answer he would cut her off and just talk down to her. If you live in the Eastern New Mexico area I wouldn’t waste you time and find someone else in a different region even if you have to travel further. He’s awful and left a sour image.

Does not care about established lung patients, only his sleep diagnotics patients. I'm a patient and can never get in for an appointment. I'm told to go to ER or clinic when I get sick. Even when I go to clinic and call Dr. Chechani for a checkup, I'm told to go back to clinic or my appointment is 6-8 weeks out. What is the purpose of having a specialist if you never can get in? Doesn't listen to you and gets mad when you ask questions.

I was referred to Dr. Chechani by my primary care physician, needing diagnosis and treatment for unresolved pulmonary issues. My experience was 100% positive. He was very thorough, asking many questions, taking notes as I answered. Dr. Chechani took time to show me my CT scan and to explain what it showed. His physical exam was complete and appropriate. He told me what tests he wanted to order and why. I have heard some patients describe him as unfriendly or lacking in bedside manner. That may be because he has a serious demeanor. For me, that is what I wanted: serious care. Dr. Chechani provided that. And I found him to be warm and respectful.

Terrible bedside manner, does not explain diagnosis or prognosis. Got the impression he did not want to spend any time with me. On a scale of 1-10, with 5 being fully satisfactory I would rate him a 2.

I went with my 77 year old mother for the appointment following her sleep study. Dr. Chechani was confrontational, condescending and belligerent. I have never seen a doctor with a worse "bedside manner". When we asked questions about his diagnosis, he became very condescending and continually interrupted our questions. When I asked him not to interrupt, he said he'd give us copies of the sleep study so that we didn't need to every see him again. Thank goodness... now we can find a doctor who isn't such a jerk.

This doctor needs to learn how to talk to patients. He is not very friendly, quite short with patients and family. No tact when informing family that patient may have a bad prognosis.
