Dr. Virginia Diaz Sarapura, MD

In two different screening follow-up appointments, it was obvious she had not even looked at my results until she was in the room with me. Once she texted and took a call DURING my appointment, the second time she was not even wearing her coat and had her purse over her shoulder either ready to go to, or returning from lunch. I had scheduled my second follow-up appointment 6 weeks in advance and requested off from work. TWO DAYS before the appointment her office called and said I needed to come in at an earlier time due to something in the Dr.'s schedule.

I went here because my doc thought the university hospital would be good at looking at all of the bloodwork and being thorough, since thyroid meds had not helped my list of symptoms. At the initial visit D. Sarapura said she felt it was incorrect thyroid medicine dose, give her new dose 3 months to kick in and if I still felt bad she would look at more hormones. When I went back a few months later my tsh had dropped to almost zero, but I had not had any improvement in symptoms. She told me "if you aren't sick, I can't help you". No further suggestions, refused to do any other bloodwork, literally got up and walked out.

Dr. Sarapura wants to help and spends time understanding symptoms, orders tests, and does her best to identify problems with endocrine organs. She is unfortunately not at all helpful if endocrine function is compromised due to factors extending beyond specific endocrine organ failure - so, if other systems or ailments are present that are compromising endocrine function, she is not able to diagnose and treat those problems and sends the patient back to their primary care physician for follow up, untreated and still suffering endocrine dysfunction. While this is understandable it is unfortunate as most primary care physicians don't know what to do next in the face of this. For me, after two months of tests this has left me with untreated, unexplained endocrine dysfunction (but healthy endocrine organs), still suffering from the symptoms I went to see Dr. Sarapura with in the first place, no closer to getting well. Again, Dr. Sarapura cares, is thorough, and does her best to… identify problems specific to endocrine organs. She seems well qualified to solve such problems. Simply, if endocrine dysfunction is due to anything other than direct failure of an endocrine organ, she is unable or unwilling to get involved in diagnosing the underlying problem or treating it (or the resultant endocrine dysfunction and associated symptoms this causes).

Well if you can ever get a hold of someone there good luck! If you have a medical problem you will never talk to this doctor! She will see you in office for a total of 6 minutes do vitals and maybe do labs and she is out the door. I'm not sure she understands men's health when it comes to thyroid issues! Gentleman stay away! Mis-diagnosed!! My family doc found out what my problems were! You are treated like cattle and a number!

I would recommend Dr. Sarapura to anyone needing the care of an endocrinologist. She is gentle, personable, and kind, as well as confident in her diagnoses and prescribed courses of treatment. Her knowledge and experience show. Unlike many specialists, she speaks WITH, rather than AT her patient, in understandable terms. For as long as I need treatment for Graves' Disease, I will hope to be in the care of Dr. Sarapura.
