Dr. Walter Mathis Bain, MD

Horrible bedside manner! I left in tears! His assistant, Mary Jo, tried to stress to me how "easy-going" and "laid-back" Dr. Bain was before his appearance. This should have been a red flag since no other assistants at any other practice I went to before this one had ever tried to go out of their way to state how nice of a personality a physician had. I saw him for earaches that are now chronic due to dealing with them for nearly two months with no resolution using antibiotics and conservative treatment. He came into the room and asked if I was there for DARS. The assistant, Mary Jo, had to tell him that he had the wrong information. He did not apologize. He is dismissive and unprofessional. His tone when he entered the room told me that he did not like me right off the bat. Then, he made rude comments about my mask and face shield. He examined my ears and throat and told me that he did not know what the problem could be or what problem I have. He did not make any effort whatsoever to… find out the reason; didn't listen. He then told me, after stating he did not find a problem, or that he did not know what the problem could be (which is his JOB as a physician to find the problem) that it could be referring to jaw pain (TMJ), and then claimed it could be due to acid reflux, even after me telling him numerous times that I did not have those issues-- confirmed by other physicians before my visit. He ignored what I said and kept asking if I had jaw pain, dental problems, or acid reflux like a broken record. He then recommended I try "conservative treatment" -- such as OTC pain medication for my problem. After I had already informed him that I had already tried those methods and they were not working. I informed him that I was not interested in something for pain as that would not resolve my problem permanently, and I wanted a permanent solution. He decided to offer me a shot. He did not specify what the reason for the shot was until I inquired. I asked, "What is the shot for?" He yelled at me, "For pain!" So much for that "laid-back", "easy-going" personality described by his assistant. I freaking left. Go somewhere else if you want to be treated like a human being and not a number. The EIT owner lied about what transpired on another review site. They replied to my review with a condescending passive-aggressive response from the owner said that I was non-compliant, unwilling to "participate in my care", and not asking Dr. Bain questions. They said that Dr. Bain only asked me multiple questions for a physical and history for an accurate diagnosis. They even lied and said that there were children present when I was in the office when there were not. Outside of myself and two other people who were in their 20s-40's, the rest of the patients there were elderly. There were not any children throughout my appointment or departure. The owner did NOT acknowledge or apologize for the behavior conducted by Bain and tried to paint me as a disgruntled and difficult patient. I was willing to comply and 'participate' up until he decided to act in an unprofessional manner and yell at me for inquiring on the reason why he wanted to give me a shot, in addition to it is VERY clear that he refused to listen to me that I did NOT want PAIN MEDICATION, refused to help, and provide adequate care! THAT is the reason why I left! I asked Dr. Bain questions during the appointment, and he became annoyed. His continuing to ask me the same "multiple questions" that I had answered numerous times throughout the appointment (with Bain expecting a different outcome) does not count as taking a physical or a history. That shows that he was unwilling to accept what I was telling him. I did not even receive an accurate diagnosis, as he did not know what the problem was and then leaped at TWO different (incorrect) diagnoses. The so-called treatments were OTC pain medications and a shot to shut me up and get me out of the office

I have been going to Dr. Bain since 1982. He is an excellent Doctor. He is caring and listens to my concerns. He is extremely gifted at what he does. I can't imagine seeing any one else for my ears. I always tell him he is not allow to retire. And his staff is very talented as well. They are eally good people and nice to work with. They are thorough in their care and have never left me waiting long to see him. Their systems are automated so all of my history is in the computer in the treatment room. Scripts are done on their computer and already filled by the time I get to the Pharmacy. Dr. Bain keeps up with the latest treatment options and always knows the right thing to do to get me fixed quick.

This Doctor is the best, He knows what he is doing. If you want to feel better. I now on will only go to him in this office otherwise I will ha e to look elsewhere. His nurse Mary Louis the best too!

Very professional

I cannot say enough about The Ear Institute of Texas! I have worked for an ENT which performed two nasal endoscopes on me only to tell me that I have chronic sinusitis and recommended Balloon Sinuplasty. I was very worried and had so many concerns, but never felt that I received the answers nor guidance I was looking for. I was then referred to The Ear Institute and was told to specifically ask for Rita. Me being leery, I was hesitant and didn't want to hear that the cure was surgery. I finally put my worries aside, called the practice and sure enough Rita was the most helpful person I have spoken with in quite some time. She was so patient, kind, very informative and very precise on her directions. I was put on hold once and that was to see if she could get me in any sooner due to my pain and symptoms. She scheduled me with Dr. Bain and prior to seeing him, I was triaged by Mary Jo, which by the way was so personable. She truly cared. I didn't feel as if I were just another patient… and they were just after making money, they actually care about their patients and getting them back to better health. My experience was beyond belief! Dr. Bain promised he was going to cure me and that's exactly what he did and it did not consist of an invasive procedure. I highly recommend this facility for any Ear, Nose and Throat problems you might have or have been told you have. I was told I had Vertigo, which Dr. Bain made clear that I did not. Call and ask for Rita and you will NOT be disappointed. Her knowledge exceeds expectation and she will do what she can to get you in as soon as possible. Dr. Bain, you and your staff rock!
