Dr. Wesam Hassen Moustafa Hussein, MD

My husband was recently hospitalized with what turned out to be a “silent” heart attack that evolved after he was admitted. As the hospitalist, Dr. Moustafa had to deal with the facts as they presented themselves without any prior interaction with my husband or his very distraught family. This doctor was a calming influence on all of us and he has excellent communication skills. A very kind man!

My son was admitted to Sentara Hospital with severe intestinal bleeding. After two procedures, he was in the intensive care unit for eight days. Dr. Moustafa was at his bedside all this time, constantly monitoring him and taking care of me, a very distraught mother. I cannot express how grateful our family is for his knowledge, his kindness and his goodness.

Dr. Hussein was my Mother's Hospitalist for just two days but he provided her and our family with amazing care. We literally think it was a blessing from God because he was just filling in at mom's hospital in PA. My mom "code-purpled" but pulled through, then he came on for a 12-hr shift one hour later. We had him the next day also for 12 hours. Mom is 86 and her situation is so complicated (admitted for Flu-A, then pneumonia, plus cdiff and 3 other pre-existing conditions. He thoroughly listened and responded to our family and followed up on everything he promised. He created an amazing treatment plan for her illness AND her pain. He had this complicated combo of antibiotics which he adjusted the next day when her frail body developed another issue. We were camped out in her room so he gave us info about the contagiousness of her infections, which we understood, we didnt feel dumd- down to. Come to find out he has special training in infectious diseases, trained in DC, but… caring for our Mom in a community hospital in PA for two days. (get the miracle in that?) Plus her comfort was addresses better than we had ever seen before. We so appreciated his attention to her pain and her coughing (day v night), and emphasized these are important for her wiped out body to get much needed sleep. Here's all you need to remember: he truly was touched and celebrated when I showed him our group family picture from Christmas, and he commented what a blessing my moms children and many grandchildren are. And, he called back at least once, I think more than once based on what the RN said, to check on my Mom's condition, at 9pm on superbowl Sunday lol. He's got that genius technical ability going on, good thing, but he's got that attentiveness, kindness and sincere compassion that cannot be taught. Sad he had to go back to DC.
