Very rude! Awful bed side manners! Spoke down to me the whole time.

Dr Fowler did a spinal fusion on my fiance 5 years ago. He is epileptic. He developed a baseball size hematoma but was not found for days because Fowler called him a wimp for not getting out of bed the next day and said there was nothing wrong with him... even told him to be a man and get up! 3 days later the on call doc discovered the hematoma ( after we complained for days that his surgical site was swelling). He returned to surgery and had it removed. Fowler was still rude to him even stating he didnt really have epilepsy even though the grand mal seizure he had right after the second surgery was witnessed by multiple staff in the hosptal... a rapid response was even called. He is a very self centered doctor who has no compassion for his patients at all.. maybe he treats the rich better because he sure believes he is above so many! Will never go back and hope this warns others to stay away from him. Denis remains in pain from this quacks surgical practice!

IMO, Fowler is a menace and I have a medical background.

He was very late and dismissive. He's basically an overpaid under-educated screw-up not unlike the other hacks at Carolina Spine

After an over a month wait for an appointment after having an MRI showing a herniated lumbar disc, I arrived for my appointment with Dr Fowler. I was told to arrive a half-hour early to fill-out paperwork even though I had been sent, and filled out, the paperwork which I presented upon arrival. The staff took that and gave me a couple of sheets which I completed in about 5-minutes. After 50-minutes in the waiting area I asked at the desk as to whether I was going to be seen or if he had an emergency at the hospital. I was told that he was running a bit late, but I shouldn't be too long. After about 15 more minutes I was called back, weighed, had my blood pressure taken, placed in an examining room, and told to strip down and put on a "hospital gown". Now I've been in the building for 70-minutes. After this abuse I expected he'd be coming in less than 10-minutes. After waiting 40 more minutes in the exam room (1-hr & 50-min now in house) I went out into the hall in my "gown", and… running into 3 or 4 nurses I asked if I should get dressed or was Dr Fowler was going to see me and what time was supper (it was after 4:30 pm). One of the nurses checked to see where he was, and indicated I was up next and he should be in to see me in 5 or 10 minutes. After another 20-minutes (now there 2-hrs and 20-minutes) in comes Dr Fowler. He said he understood I was upset about the wait, and I agreed that I was. He explained to me that the practice procedure was that the front desk scanned all the pages I had filled out into "the computer system", and that he had taken time to review all that as well as the MRI, and that had taken him about 20-minutes. He also gave me a time-line as to how a patient coming to the practice should expect to wait, which I told him was ludicrous because there was over an hour built into their system where it was no necessary that the patient be on site. He agreed that the system needed some tweaking, and that he was going to bring that up and their next partners meeting. He went on to recount to me what he had understood from the paperwork and the MRI, and and made a physical hands-on examination and asked me about the level of pain and the pain site. After this he suggested a stepped method of treatment. First physical therapy, then steroid injections, then consideration of surgery. He seemed very knowledgeable and competent and answered all my questions in detail and I did not feel as though he had rushed through the "face time". He spent about 20-minutes after which I dressed and went to the checkout area where I was given my physical therapy orders and was asked where they should fax the orders. So, all-in-all I was in the office about 2-hours and 50-minutes. The physical therapy was not efficacious, and I have returned to see his P.A. several times. She is fabulous, and does not make you wait more than 10 or 15 minutes. She also is very descriptive about what's going on. I went on to have a steroid epidural and two steroid facet blocks from the doctor in the practice who does such things. He is an absolutely fantastic doctor. He knows what he's doing, and he makes sure you understand what's coming up. The injections were very helpful short-term, but I'm worse now that at the first. I'm trying to get back with his P.A. to see what she can suggest. Bottom-line, if I get to the point of having surgery, I would have Dr Fowler do it. I believe he is very competent. I have had two cervical disc surgeries which were done by doctors in the practice both of whom are now retired, and I am sure that the practice would have no less than exceptional doctors.

Dr. Fowler is always at least one hour behind. His staff will put you in a room and my last visit I sat there for 2 1/2 hours before Dr. Fowler arrived. No staff ever checked on me and only when I said I was leaving at 5:30 did Dr. Fowler stick his head in the door and say I will be with you shortly. After a 2 1/2 hour wait I was told he still didn't know what the problem was and I should get a second opinion - however, I would have to see one of the other doctors in his practice. I will never go to this office again. Getting second opinion from more qualified neurosurgeon.

His surgical skills restored my quality of life and I am forever greatful

I have always been treated well at this office. Dr. Fowler spent a lot of time with me on my initial visit. I have never waited long for an appointment and follow up appointments are easy to obtain.

I was in a SERIOUS car accident, multiple injuries and rolled repeatedly nearly the length of a football field! Referred directly from MISSION... when called to make appointment was told had to see this doc, instead of the doc on my paper work. Then, I couldn't even see him for 6 WEEKS AFTER THE ACCIDENT... BECAUSE I HAD TO SEE THE PA (physician's assistant) FIRST! So.... Let me get this straight, I had a head injury, a neck injury, blood clot, and bowel and bladder problems, and had to wait 6 WEEKS to see the doctor! really?... that was what happened to me! Thankfully... someone else in my family was using a different practice, and when we called them they had me in within 10 days of the accident with a doctor not a PA! Still went to the PA appointment(which was 3 weeks after the accident) and the appointment with the doctor was 6 weeks later. I felt like I was not their priority. I had been through a lot, and I am recovering but the process is slow. So, yes, by the time I did get to… him, I was doing better, but still have valid issues that needed to be addressed. We waited about an hour to see him, and he spent about 10 minutes with us. Could not answer some of my valid questions and concerns, instead he danced around the questions. He did refer me to another specialist. (That would have been helpful much earlier). My overall impression was I felt like he wasted my time! I didn't get any additional answers. I have a huge respect for the medical profession, but there is a way to talk with patients. Even, if you have had a tough day. A word of advice, put yourself in your patient's shoes! Think about how you would want to be treated as a patient. I did not find him to be rude and uncaring. I just felt like he was too busy the day we were there.
