Dr. Ralph Charles Loomis, MD

In 1998 Dr. Loomis treated my 94 year old grandmother when she had a massive heart attack and fell and hit her head which caused a stroke. The outcome looked final and not much hope for her to recover. Dr. Loomis was so kind to our family and spoke in such a caring manner. But to everyone’s amazement my grandmother defied all odds and in 4 days had come out of her coma and was sitting up and talking. Dr. Loomis came to her room that Saturday morning to find her alert and aware of everyone in the room. Not only was he shocked and amazed but said to our family “I can assure you there is a Higher Power at work here with Miss Pandora.” He then prayed with us. He was quick to give the credit and glory to our God because a miracle had taken place. I will never forget Dr. Loomis and his kind and caring manner but also how he was quick to give God the glory in what clearly was a miracle. My grandmother went on to live to the age of 104. A wonderful doctor and human being. Thank you… Dr. Loomis.

Dr Loomis is the most top notch neurosurgeon that you could ever ask for and I am happy that I had him for 39 years as my Neurosurgeon and if he was still practicing he would still be my neurosurgeon

I would not hesitate to recommend him. My only prior experience with a neurologist, 2 years ago, was such a failure that I had little hope for better. But the difference between then and now could not have been more profound. His manner and the way he anticipated and answered my questions inspired complete confidence.

I have never encountered a provider worse than this one. He was extremely rude, very condescending and completely unprofessional. He was mad that the doctor that referred me had done so. he also berated that doctor to me, and threatened his career in front of me & my wife. I am merely the patient here, and should not be treated in such an unprofessional manner. I was glad to leave that appointment. I would NEVER recommend this provider to anyone else. I am told that he will likely retire soon. I certainly hope so.

Dr.loomis the greatest dr ever I grew up with dr Loomis as a patient I was 8 years old when he did my first surgery I had a cyst as big as a orange on the center part of my brain and dr.loomis has done all my surgeries he has the best bed side manors of any doctor I am going to miss him doing my surgeries now that he dont do surgeries anymore you are and always will be the greatest doctor in my eyes

I went to see Dr. Loomis for a 2nd opinion. Dr. Loomis was wonderful. He gave me his full attention, took his time and seemed to really care about my case. He went through everything with me, including my MRI scan. I was very pleased with the outcome of seeing this doctor. (finally getting a diagnosis that made sense) I would definitely recommend him. I was referred to Dr. Loomis by my family doctor. Having been thru this process with Dr. Loomis, I would now pick someone else if I ever need another surgery. When I got my second opinion, I liked THAT surgeon better, & my gut told me to ask him to work on me, but I didn't. Also, every other person & doctor I talk to who does this surgery now, use a more modern approaches to all aspects, especially the initial testing, & the post-surgery recovery "situation". About 2 years later, I had some issues come up that are in the exact area of the surgery (& still have minor issues), & it was already in a rough period of my life....recession, laid off from work, etc., then I made an appointment to see him, thinking that he would be the one to "help" me...but I was treated very coldly, with no sense of help or comfort at all, at a time when I was really in a low spot of my life....scheduled for another myelogram (barbaric old-school X-ray with a spinal tap, my second one from him), & then told… nothing was wrong. I now live with some issues that I expect I always will have......it's minor in the big picture. It would have been so much easier to get my head around, if ANYONE in the medical world would at least acknowledge that there are various "issues" that may come up down the road. (Many of us who actually HAVE these procedures know!) I think they are all so worried about being sued, that their default position is "I don't know why/what, etc...no, it can't be that". Don't get me wrong....I'm not saying that Dr. Loomis did anything wrong....I'm just saying that...if I ever have to do ANYTHING like this again, I would pick someone else. I wish I would have had the courage to pick the other guy back when I had the chance. I can't say it would be different...ultimately, the major nerve pain is gone, for the most part.....but I wonder what the overall experience would have been like with one of the other, younger guys.

If you check other rating sites you including this one you will see that EVERY Carolina Spine doctor is rated below the national average. Think about why. Fixing spine problems right the first time is far less lucrative than keeping the patient coming back. Check other parts of NC, SC and TN and you will see that the worst rated surgeons are in Asheville. The best, the brightest and most ethical are probably not at Carolina Spine.

The reason that I even bother to rate Dr. Loomis is that I dont want anyone else to suffer at his hands like I have. He done a L5S1 fusion on me. It took him five hours and I lost a lot of blood. I came out with more neuro symptoms that I had never experinced before. He flat out lied to me about my blood lose...telling my family that I did not lose much blood in the surgery( which is important in the healing process on this kind of surgery) I continued to call the office and see him and Laurie Stoker ( she was no good either) And he never would tell me what really was on my CT scans..I am the third person that he has messed up on bad...that I know personally and had to have reconstructed surgery due to his wrong doings. I went to another facility and doctor..My test that I took from him showed that he had badly misplaced one of the screws....AND IT IS ON A NERVE ROOT! AND I NOW HAVE SPINAL CORD DAMAGE THAT IS CAUSING SEVERE PAIN....AND THERE IS NO SURGERY TO DO FOR THAT. He fooled me… with his good bedside personality, but lying to me all the while....He can not undo what all he has done to me. I am now looking at another surgery due to HIS mistakes. A fusion is not an easy surgery to recover from and going through it again is mentally and physically HARD...Please dont go to him...I think that he may have been a good surgeon in is time, but he is older now and I feel that he has lost alot of his skills and doesnt offer the newest ways of doing surgery. This is a brief describtion of what I have been through with this office, but I just wanted to post so that no one esle will go through this.

Dr. Loomis,Has done 2 surgeries on me and he will NEVER touch me ever again. His PA is very disrespective and I was sent home after surgery without anykind of medication. It's like once he is done with you don't see him again and then he DICTATE letters to my doctor that I totally trust for more than 8 to 10 years saying I have said something that was never even said. He will NEVER touch me again. And I know of 2 other people that he has done 2 surgeies on them and they have went to another doctor and found out he has made HUGE mistakes and then once of the doctor's after looling at the x-rays found our that DR. LOOMIS ignore another problem that was going on in aother place and he was even doing the procdure for the samething surgery wise. From doctor to doctor Dr. Loomis stated in a letter it was on the case and did not like that there had been another opionion of 2 doctor's on what DR. LOOMIS ignored. Not once did he do what he state to me in a letter to myself and my doctor. He and… his PA LAURIE STOCKER make you feel like a pieve of meat being pushing through and could careless the ending resurls. He is suppose to be a Christian man and his Credentials were checked out before I even went to see him, but man I was susprized by his actions and this is why he will NEVER touch me nor myself, family or friends, or anyone that I have ever know.,...
