Dr. William Houston Brooks, MD

I was rolling down to the operating room in 2007, Dr.Brooks and staff came to my side, telling me the procedure, risks, etc., I said doc lets roll. Im dying in pain and cant move or feel anything below my waist. Boom bam, it’s 2021, I’m still alive and walking ( a lot of hard work and miracles ). I was at another hospital, the surgeon came in talked with me, and wanted to rush me immediately to the operating room to save my life, he said i would never walk again. One of my family members, thankfully from the medical profession in the past, called a doctor friend of hers. He told her, I will call you back in 5 minutes. He did, and told her the best doctor in the state was Dr.Tibbs, he had just got off the phone with him. Dr.Tibbs was out of the country and said, I will make a call, Dr.Brooks is your man, I will call the hospital and have the patient shipped across town to the other hospital, only because this is Dr.Brooks preferred operating room and feels his best there. Moments latter… the ambulance was rushing me across town. They took me out of the ambulance started me to the operating room, Dr.Brooks caught us in the hall way, and the rest is history. It was really a miracle that days events fell in line and the order they did. Life went on, but I will never forget and be grateful to Dr.Brooks. He was very humbling when I thanked him for saving me. He told me, he didn’t save me, god did.

My mother saw Dr Brooks after she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. We felt like he had a poor attitude, poor bedside manner, he did not explain much and asked us... well what do you want to know? Umm can she have surgery? No its too large. Is it cancer? yes about 100% sure it is now since it is so large. Should you do a biopsy? No real reason to do one. Can you refer her somewhere else? No it would be a waste of time. He did say you can try Radiation to see if it shrinks and to buy a little time because you have about 6-12 weeks left :( I decided to call DUKE Brain tumor center because I was not giving up on my mom. At Duke, she had tumor removed with no complications and lived 2 years. If we had listened to him, we would not have gotten those 2 extra years with our momma. Find a different Neurosurgeon. BEWARE :(

I WAS EXPERIENCING PAIN AND DISCOMFORT IN MY NECK AND BACK AND THE PAIN RADIATED UP IN MY LEFT JAW. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I HAD A CRICK IN MY NECK AND INSTEAD OF GETTING BETTER THE PAIN GRADUALLY GREW WORSE. THEN IN TEN DAYS I STARTED EXPERIENCING DOUBLE VISION. MY FIRST VISIT WITH DR. WILLIAM HOUSTON BROOKS WAS VERY HELPFUL AND I WAS SO RELIEVED. DR. BROOKS WAS VERY, PLEASANT, AND THE MOST CARING NEUROSURGEON I HAVE EVER VISITED. HE WAS RIGHT ON TARGET WITH MY DIAGNOSIS AFTER ALL THE TESTING WAS COMPLETED. HE PRESCRIBED MEDICATION TO TREAT MY PROBLEM AND THE MEDICATION DEFINITELY HAS HELPED ME. MY PERSONAL FEELINGS ARE BAPTIST HEALTH IS VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE AN EXCELLENT OUTSTANDING NEUROSURGEON AS DR. BROOKS. DR. BROOKS IMMEDIATELY PUTS YOU AT EASE DURING YOUR VISIT AND ANSWERS ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS AND GIVES THE PATIENT GOOD ADVICE. IF I SHOULD EVER HAVE TO RETURN FOR A FUTURE VISIT I MOST CERTAINLY WILL LOOK FORWARD TO THE VISIT. KUDOS TO YOU DR. BROOKS!!!!!!

This is not a doctor that I can recommend to anyone. Dr. Brooks changed my diagnosis drastically multiple times. His first diagnosis was accurate with my MRI and 2 other doctors’ diagnosis’. By the end of treatment he lightened my diagnosis (inaccurately) causing me to receive the smallest settlement and receive medical care for a muscle strain instead of the original diagnosis (Herniated Disc). Dr. Brooks caused me to basically lose my case with an injury that has debilitated me for life.

Dr. Brooks is very knowledgable & efficient, has a great bedside manner, makes you feel cared for and about, spends time with you, explains things, makes sure you understand

I was referred to Dr. Brooks by my primary care physician, who told he would choose Dr. Brooks for his own family members should the need arise. I found Dr. Brooks to be personable, knowledgeable, and thorough, both with my diagnosis, as well as my subsequent surgery. He answered any questions I had about my condition and what I could expect post-surgery. Furthermore, he and his staff treated me with respect and care. What I look for most in medical professionals is their knowledge and expertise, along with strong recommendations from people whose opinion I trust. Anything beyond (such as bedside manner or congeniality) are secondary. In Dr. Brook's case, I was happy to find working with him to be everything I could expect in order to have a successful and as pleasant as possible surgical experience. I am still recovering from lumbar fusion, but feel I am doing very well, considering the extent of the nerve compression, the length of time I had dealt with the issue, and my… age (68), thanks to Dr. Brooks and his staff.

Really great reviews verbally about Dr Brooks, he completed an exam, explained test results very well. Will tell you the hard truths whether you like it or not, good or bad. I liked the honesty and sincerity. He is for his patient and wants the best for you

Dr William Brooks has the reputation of being one of the Very Best Neurosurgeons in Lex, KY He does a thorough exam, gives you results of any tests that are done, and then gives you his opinion of what he thinks would be the best solution. Then he lets the patient decide if they do or do not want his expertise as a Neurosurgeon. He operated on my back in 2012 and I have had excellent results. I would highly recommend Dr W. Brooks to anyone who needs a Neurosurgeon. It will be a sad day when he retires; he is the best!
