Dr. William M Demayo, MD

Dr. DeMayo has nearly 30 years of clinical experience in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In addition to serving as Medical Director for several comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation units, Dr. DeMayo has always maintained an outpatient practice, including musculoskeletal/neuropathic pain management and return to work. He approaches health care with a holistic attitude including consideration of physical, emotional/psychological, and spiritual components of disability while maintaining a practical/goal oriented focus. He combines patient education, individualized exercise prescription, and non-narcotic medical management with a team oriented communication style that includes collaboration with nurses/nurse practitioners, physical therapy, occupational therapy, case managers, family, and other stakeholders. Dr. DeMayo believes in keeping the patient at the center of this team, with all goals being individualized and established by the patient.
Dr. DeMayo graduated …Magna Cum Laude from Boston Collegein 1982 and received his M.D. degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1986. He completed his internship at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh (now part of UPMC) and then returned to Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City for three years of residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He served as Medical Director for a busy Spinal Cord Injury Program at Gaylord Hospital in Connecticut for six years before being recruited to Johnstown to open up the Crichton Center for Advanced Rehabilitation in Johnstown. He transitioned into private practice in 2002 but continued to do part-time work as Medical Director for several inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs. In addition to his main office practice he has also worked with the River Practice, a telemedicine practice since 2014.

Academically, Dr. DeMayo has been a past clinical instructor for the Yale School of Medicine and Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. He continues to lecture regularly to clinicians, attorneys, and patient groups. Additionally, he provides consultation services and expert witness work in several clinical areas.
