Dr. William M Goodman, MD

Dr Goodman did my surgery 2 years ago. He was the Dr recommended by my Optometrist in Springfield. So I let him do my surgery. When I had my initial visit he checked my eyes to get lens prescription. As he left room He patted my arm and said "you won't even need glasses except to read after surgery, ". First eye did great, I could tell a difference the next day. Second surgery I knew something was wrong the next day, my vision was worse than before surgery. I had to keep going back to my Optometrist in Springfield about my vision and I was afraid my vision was going to get worse. Finally my Dr said for whatever reason he used a lens that didn't work for reading or for far sight. I was devastated. My Optometrist ask me did I think it was malpractice? I ask him what he thought it was? Whatever, don't use this guy. I have had 4 pair of glasses since he did this surgery because my eyes keep trying to adjust to the wrong lens.

BEWARE OF THIS OFFICE!!! Dr. Goodman is a good doctor, but if you wish to have multi-focal lens Lasik surgery, they do a very poor job explaining the financial responsibilities to the patient. Multi-focal lens are usually not covered by insurance. My estimated out-of-pocket cost for both eyes was explained to me as not to exceed more than $7,000 - $8,000, but I ended paying more than $10,000. This includes the cost of the surgery center which is another cost. Each lens cost $1,000. That is just the lens and then there is the surgery center costs, and doctor costs. They tell you they can only estimate what the surgery center will charge the patient, but the patient needs to learn what the total cost will be upfront, regardless of facility, so that they have a true understanding of the entire financial responsibility. If you estimate no more than $8,000 for everything, then you will feel like you got stiffed in the end. This is a total disservice to patients and downright… unethical in my opinion.

Had cataract surgery at Southeast Eye Specialist. Dr. Goodman put the wrong lens in my right eye. I felt like there were enough issues with them that I decided I should find a different surgeon to fix it. I asked Dr. Goodman to refund the cost to me to pay another surgeon to fix what he did. He agreed and then his main office agreed after weeks of jerking me around, including Dr. Goodman asking who I was when I texted him on his cell (since his office and he were not returning my calls). I had texted Dr Goodman about putting the wrong lens in my eye and he texted back asking who I was. Scary huh!! They said they would send me a document to sign that would be a simple agreement that their payment would be the total financial obligation to me. Instead, they sent me a 4 page document that precluded me from even discussing what they did to me with anyone verbally or in writing and more. I said I wasn’t signing such a one-sided document that restrained me like that. They ended all… conversation with me. I strongly recommend everyone steer clear of this facility. They are in Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Nashville areas and have more satellite locations. You might think you could sue them to pay for damage they do but you really can’t. Dr’s association got the legislature to pass very restrictive laws on how you can sue a Dr. which includes, among other things, that you must have at least 2 Dr’s from states touching Tennessee or in Tennessee to testify for you. The Doctors formed their own Doctor owned malpractice insurance company. So for a Dr. to testify for you, they would have to do so against their own self interest. I intend to place the maximum reviews possible to try to get the word out and I plan to file complaints with every regulatory body possible.

Dr William Goodman of South East Eye Specialists is exceptional. He performed cataract surgery for me and his ability to make you feel comfortable makes him a special kind of physician. Dr Goodman called me the day before both surgeries on a Sunday evening to check on me, and then called me later that night to make sure I was feeling OK. The results based on his surgical skills have been incredible and my vision is now close to 20/20 and am feeling great. While I hope to not need his surgical skills again, I know if I needed anything with regard to my eyes he would be the first I would call!!!
