Dr. William Saa Kamanda, MD

Dr. Kamanda is double Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. He is a graduate of the A.M. Dogliotti College of Medicine, University of Liberia. He completed one year of pathology residency training at Howard University Hospital in Washington D.C. in 1988 before joining the Department of Medicine at Wayne State University Medical Center in Detroit, MI. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine in 1991 at the same hospital. In July of the same year, he joined the Karmanos Cancer Institute at Wayne State University Medical Center, as a fellow in Hematology and Oncology. He completed three years of fellowship including one year of cancer research in Diffuse Large Cell Lymphoma.

Following completion of his fellowship in 1994, he joined the faculty of the College of Medicine at Michigan State University. As an Assistant Professor, Dr. Kamanda was involved in instruction and lecturing of medical students, medical interns, residents and fellows in the …Department of Hematology and Oncology. He conducted research in breast cancer, prostate cancer and multi-drug resistance in cancer therapy. He has published in major cancer journals and presented at national cancer meetings.

In 1999, he joined the Elkhart Clinic, as Head of the Hematology and Oncology Division where he helped to establish the Clinical Cancer Center at Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart, IN.

In 2004, he established his own private Hematology and Oncology practice in South Bend where he continues to serve the people of both Southern Michigan and Northern Indiana.

He continues to perform clinical research as an investigator with the National Cancer Institute and the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project through Michigan State University Cancer Consortium. His clinical areas of interest include the gastrointestinal, breast and prostate cancers. He also enjoys evaluation and management of coagulation disorders.
