Diagnosed with HIV at a time when it meant a death sentence I was lucky enough to find Dr. Reiter. This was the early days when fear ruled, I was forced to find both a new Dr. and dentist as my old ones would no longer see me (HIV required a level of expertise beyond their ability or they could not be assured of the sterilization process and wanted to protect other patients!) Wether it was his unique use of AZT (at the time novel but now a standard practise) or any of the other cutting edge drug studies, I made it thru, while so many of my friends did not. Dr. Reiter was ALWAYS available even if it was just to talk about the challenges I faced. In fact his practise of treating me as a whole person and not just a set of symptoms is still hard to find in a dr. In the fight against HIV Dr. Reiter was in the front lines and should be awarded it's highest honors.
