Excellent doctor

Dr. Schnell replaced a knee joint for me and a hip for my husband. My surgery went perfectly according to plan, but my husband developed a staph infection around the joint which needed a thorough cleaning out. He is on antibiotics now. This is only the SECOND infection in all of Dr. Schnell's THIRTY YEARS of practice. There were several mitigating circumstances that my husband had that made the infection more likely to occur.

I find that he listens to you and cares---after my first knee surgery he called on a Sunday to make sure I was ok. After the second tear and repair he again called on a Sunday. He does not push surgery and tries evasive ways first--He did a total knee replacement for me in 2011 after many years of his and my patience as I was too young to have(so he said) and I will tell you he is the best. I have had others tell me what an awesome scar I have you can hardly see it and that I recuperated so fast from it. He is perhaps the best ortho Dr I have ever had--I would recommend him and have to several and after they returned they called and thanked me for him. I had previously scrubbed w Dr Schnell as a student. So when my mom needed her rt hip replaced I knew he was the guy. Sure there are other orthopods in duluth. I just remember how great he was as a teacher. He made days fun. He gave my mom personal attention. I then needed an ulnar nerve transposition and carpal tunnel procedure. So I knew I would def trust my 34 year old limbs to him. Being numb in ur left hand at 34 is kinda scary. I had the most excellent nurse. Tara G. She made a rough day so much better. Dr. Schnell took time w me. He made both my mother and I feel comfortable, safe, and well cared for. I wouldn't want anyone else to treat me and we rave about him to others. He is always explaining what he is doing, why, and will gladly go over whatever you need. He goes above and beyond for such a busy man. He changed my life as a student that was 19 and naive...........and then at 34 having to trust him w my care. I can feel my fingers again and pain is temporary. He's someone I… wish I could know because he is smart and can teach on a lot more than medicine. Surgeons like this man are rare. He actually cares. Its a wonderful thing.

Great collaboration with my GP to diagnos what turned out not to be a surgical problem. My hats off to Dr. Schnell,,, for that as well as his professionalism when he did do orthopedic surgery on my hands.
