Dr. Xianghui Cao, MD

Normally I do not post reviews but following my husband's appointment with Dr. Cao I felt it was necessary to document our experience during our visit. Our PCP referred my husband to Dr. Cao for an electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test. It began when I received a phone call from Dr. Cao's office notifying me that my husband had been scheduled for an appointment the following day. This was the first contact we had received from Dr. Cao's office. There was no phone call to discuss a mutually convenient day and time for the appointment. Due to work obligations and the less than 24 hour notice of the appointment my husband called the office and left a voicemail cancelling the appointment. The following day his PCP contacted me to see how the appointment had gone and I explained the situation. I then called Dr. Cao's office and re-scheduled. His office went over the preliminary requirements of no lotion or oils and loose clothing and then told me that… because our deductible had not been met we would be responsible for between $400 and $600 dollars on the day of the visit. We arrived 15 minutes early as requested, filled out the required paperwork and waited. Approximately 10 minutes after our scheduled appointment time Dr. Cao stepped out and called him back to the examining room. Because it can be overwhelming and sometimes confusing trying to absorb information while being tested I went back with him. The examining room in which he was being tested appeared to be an office in the process of either being renovated or being used as a "junk" room with an assortment of furniture pushed against the wall. Dr. Cao said very little to either of us other than to ask if he was on blood thinners and stating that there would be some "discomfort" during the testing. She offered no detailed explanation of the procedures she was about to perform nor did she ask if we had any questions. She began with the NCV testing which he tolerated fairly well. She then proceeded to insert a needle into his hip area which he found extremely painful. At this point he refused to to proceed with any further testing. Because I wanted him to complete the testing so that we could get an accurate diagnosis I asked if there was a topical application we could use to lessen the pain and was told there was not. I asked how many more needle insertions he would have to go through and if they would be as painful but never received an answer to those questions. I asked how the incomplete test would affect the results and was told that the test would only be 1/2 complete. What I HOPED she would do is try to reassure him by explaining exactly what to expect with the remaining needle insertions but again, she did not appear to care whether he completed the testing or not and began to remove the electrodes. When my husband asked if she could give us any results she said they would be forwarded to our PCP in 2-3 days. She then left the room. When my husband and I walked out to the check-out desk Dr. Cao and the two office people were talking about how my husband had not completed the test and they were laughing. The moment they saw us Dr. Cao walked away and the two staff members resumed professional behavior. We paid the bill and left. There have been attempts to alleviate pain during an EMG with pharmacologic interventions (eg, skin sprays or oral analgesics) and with nonpharmacologic interventions (eg, calming music and/or providing pre-procedure information about the test to alleviate anxiety). Either one of these options could have made a difference in my husband being able to complete the testing in order to get an accurate diagnosis. Dr. Cao either did not know, which in and of itself is disturbing or did not care.

Two episodes which cost me over $40,000 at emergency without a diagnosis. Dr Cao successfully diagnosis the cause, successful treated the issue with no further incidence more than a year later.

Took Money from an Disabled Stroke Victim as Medicaid's payment wasn't enough and She sued taking almost half of His limited income as he had too retire due to the stroke. But knew it and still took the money he needed to survive. But I guess she needs more than him. What an horrible excuse of a human let alone a So Called doctor you would get more compassion from a loan shark.

Dr. Cao is one of the best neurologist I've seen. She is thorough and prompt and is always willing to listen to anything you want to talk about. She does not rush you through your visit and takes the necessary time needed to properly diagnose your condition. I would highly recommend her not only to friends but my own family! Hope this helps anyone looking to secure a neurologist..

Didn't care for the attitude of the staff or doctor. They acted like I was a bother to them and that I was wasting their time. Horrible "bedside" manner and didn't really care about my feelings or concerns

Fab Doc , in every way possible., bedside is great, patient, great listener, and very personable., I cant say enough of Dr. C !!

Went in having issues with migraine DAILY. She asked MAYBE four questions . Just told me people get migraines everyday and it's something I'll just have to figure out myself . I didn't show it but I was furious . I still have a migraine everyday and now I have tingling down my left leg and in my pinkie finger . I went to another neurologist who scheduled me an MRI and I went but found nothing . He suggested I treat the problem but that's as far as I can get . May have to visit ER ð??? But Dr cao is no help at all. No effort was put in to try to find the problem.

I have been very happy with Dr. Cao. She is direct and gives me the time and explanations I need to understand the treatment fully.

Dr. Cao is wonderful. Very thorough! Highly recommended.

My wife was diagnosed and treated by this doctor in 2010. Three years later my wife became symptomatic once again. We were referred back by our primary doctor, got an appointment with Dr. Cao, and after waiting for an hour, she refused to see my wife, who was in considerable pain. The reason given is that my wife saw another doctor in their practice since her last treatment with her. This however was for a totally different condition and as the result of an accident at work. I still do not understand the logic. Her work referred her to him, it was not her choice. To refuse to see a past patient for the same ailment treated in the past after an appointment is made and we are sitting there for an hour is just unprofessional. We paid our co pay, which by the way they did not voluntarily offer to return. We had to call later. I hope I am not laying dying on the side of the road when this doctor drives by. I am sure she will choose making it to dinner on time vs saving someones life.
