Dr. Yasir Nihad Jassam, MD

Rating could be a five but it’s hit or miss with this doctor. I often feel rushed in his appointments. I know he is popular and busy which is fine but a patient likes to be heard. His staff is hit and miss too. His actual nurse, Audrey is very good. The other staff can be abrupt at times. It’s a very busy office and that could be the problem. I can say he is the first neurologist I’ve had that actually keeps up on the necessary tests I need for my condition. I wish his staff was more consistent. It’s not that hard to be polite.

I moved here from out of state last year and was seen at UCI. Unfortunately, I didnt feel as if I was anything more than a number to them. Having MS, I needed to feel as if someone cared about me and my personal disease with MS. Dr. Jassam is that doctor for me! He is straight up, honest, caring, understanding and genuinely concerned for my health and the best path to helping me with my symptoms and my disease. He has all of the most current knowledge of what is happening in the field and always shares that with me. He fights my insurance company side by side with me until we get it right. I could not have asked for a better physician to go hand and hand through this journey with me and my family!

Quite possibly my worst experience with a neurologist office.

I think something is wrong with him. He forgot what he had told me last appointment and acted like I was insane for asking about it. He didn’t read my last results and went off on a tangent that didn’t make sense. I brought up my last testing and then he changed his tone and became more normal. He missed, forgot, didn’t review so much my second appointment it was alarming to consider him as continuing as my provider. In the end I changed to a neurologist at Cedars Sinai and I drive one hour because I couldn’t handle the inconsistencies with Jassam’s memory and attitude. For the record I live 10 minutes from Hoag Newport but opt to drive one hour away to receive appropriate care. I find this unacceptable from Hoag. Is it possible to have someone else at Hoag as an “expert”?

I fainted while I had covid-19 and happened to tell this doctor about it while visiting him for a completely different reason. (I also happened to be very dehydrated and running on minimal sleep at the time of the fainting, as well as emotionally distressed for personal reasons, all details the doctor was aware of) I left his office with a medically suspended license, had to go through 3 months of expensive testing and jumped through a ton of hoops to get the suspension lifted. and now my insurance premium is insanely high. I get that it’s “policy” to notify the dmv about fainting episodes, but for a healthy 22 year old that’s never fainted before and only lost consciousness in his own home while infected with COVID-19 and with other justifiable reasons, maybe bend the rules a little bit. Terrible doctor

Horrible physician. Lowest caliber. Lacks knowledge of neurological issues and comes into appointments completely unprepared. Gives inaccurate and terrible advice about treatments. Get a second opinion if he offers treatment, don’t trust him. If I wasn’t well versed on my conditions he would lead me down an inappropriate treatment plan. Be careful. He is a very poor physician.

Dr. Jassam is probably the star of my medical team. After being diagnosed with MS I felt hopeless for what was ahead. Jassam approached me with a positive confident attitude towards my diagnosis. Every visit he is attentive, answers my questions and does a great job explaining what is going on. I no longer feel that hopelessness I once did. His team is also excellent at communicating with their patients in a timely manner via MyChart. They make you feel like you're in good hands. I couldn't recommend Dr. Jassam and his team enough.

His moods were inconsistent each time I went and he forgot aspects we discussed on prior appointment despite his seemingly focused charting and accused me of making something up. I thought I was perhaps mistaken but when discussing the appointments with loved ones after, they advised me that I did in fact discuss those facts because I called them immediately after the previous appointment. One visit I overheard him getting upset with a staff member regarding another patient's insurance - and because he didn't close my door, I heard everything, including the patient's full name. My experience felt that he was lacking real empathy and was not current on some new data. He seems like a smart man, but I felt that he was not really open-minded and his own ego was in the way of a working patient-provider relationship.

I used to see him in Kansas City. He was the doc that confirmed my diagnosis. The first doc i had diagnosed me with MS after all the tests - but Dr Jassam saw my MRI scans and said it was classic MS..and he wouldn't have needed to order things like a spinal tap to diagnose me. In my first appointment with me, the first thing be said was, "what do you know about the disease?" It was a brilliant way to begin a doctor/patient relationship. It opened the door of great conversation we always had during appointments. I wish he was still in KC. I'm considering flying to LA to continue care from him.....

I have been followed for years by Neurologists (MS specialists mostly) because of a chronic, debilitating autoimmune disease that has continued to progress rapidly over the years. These specialists were never fully sure I had MS, but knew it was some kind of autoimmune disorder. So many had terrible bedside manner or just put me on a new medication & hoped for the best. This Dr Jassam is the best I've ever seen in over 20 years. He is attentive, incredibly thorough, asks questions, shows a genuine concern & interest in my history of autoimmune issues & exacerbations. He was more thorough than the last 10 Neurologists that I've seen. I’m truly so grateful to have been referred to him & his clinical nurse Audrey Johns!! (who is just so awesome!), as well as knowledgeable, professional & detailed oriented!. They truly express care & concern for you!! I haven't felt this hopeful or grateful for any one of the many specialists that I've seen in the last 20 yrs! They have re-inspired &… re-instilled my hope & trust in physicians & specialists again! I was not at all surprised to see the many positive things written about him on this site. However, I am absolutely shocked that he has even one negative comment. As a patient that has seen many doctors & specialists over many years, it makes me wonder if they met the same man I did ?? He is truly THE BEST!
