Dr. Young-Min Kwon, MD

Dr. Kwon did a hip replacement for me 5 months ago. I am 60 years old and had put off the surgery for 20 years. Had I known how good Dr. Kwon (and his team) are; I would have done it years ago. Mine was not the easiest (6'-2"+300lbs) for them but they did an awesome job! I have gone from sedentary (and in constant pain) to resuming normal athletics and day to day activities with absolutely no pain whatsoever! I could not recommend Dr Kwon and his team any higher. From reception to nurses, and from X-Ray to Fellows; Dr Kwon and his team are top notch! Do yourself a favor- Call Dr. Kwon and make an appointment to have yours done.

Dr. Kwon is tops in his field. I had hip revision surgery (original hip joint was defective and needed to be replaced). My original surgeon was taking a wait and see attitude, where Dr. Kwon saw the immediate need for revision. He was correct, there was a lot of damage. Surgery was very successful, no pain after almost two years now. BUT, if you are looking for touchy feely bedside manner, you will not get it at Mass General. Very busy staff and they don't spend much time with patients. But I would definitely go back if I had to have other replacements done. I feel like I got the best possible surgeon.

Had my hip replaced 2 years ago. Experience from start to finish was great. All the staff I encountered were great and have never had any issues with any pre or post visits to his office. The outcome of surgery has been near perfect. Dr Keon did a fantastic job following up and also in setting clear professional expectations through out the process. I have not regretted my decision for a second.

I don't doubt that Dr. Kwon has the expertise and knowledge to do a great surgery and so far it seems mine was successful. And YES that should be the most important thing. BUT, when getting a knee replacement there is a LOT of apprehension and anxiety so just a LITTLE bit of time from him would have been nice. My first appointment I was examined by two students and talked (was not examined by) to Dr.Kwon for less than 5 minutes. In fact both pre-op and post-op appts were handled by "fellows" or assistants and never ONCE did Dr.Kwon ever touch or look at my knee! Seriously. When I did see him, he'd show me the x-ray, make a few comments and leave. I've always felt like the surgery is the important part and the communication and bedside manner is less important but this was a bit extreme. Maybe it's the Mass General way but they are way too busy and very understaffed. Seems like you are just another number and they want you in and out quick - no time for conversations. The… overall experience could have been much more comfortable with just a tiny bit of compassion and personal connection.

I took me 8 years to finally make an appointment for my hip. It has no range of motion, cannot walk more than a few minutes if that. He took about 5 minutes, never had me walk or ask about my pain. Worst visit every and a totally waste of my time and money to drive into Boston.
