Albany Med Urology

Ms. Surekha Varkey NP appears to know very little about the urology as a medical practice. After a year under her care, I switched from Albany Med to St. Peter's, where I am seeing an attentive and knowledgeable urologist MD. After an initial MRI to track benign kidney cysts, all that Ms. Varkey would do once a year is a urine culture and a manual prostate inspection. No follow-up on the cysts. For a weak urine stream, she offered some medication with absolutely no explanation. That's it. Annually, she spent about 10 minutes in the exam room but billed Medicare for 45 minutes. As I found out at St. Peter's, there are other tests that Ms. Varkey never ran. My new urologist MD did a urological dynamic study (UDS) as well as a cystoscopy. The cystoscopy revealed red nodules, which were biopsied in another same-day surgical procedure and proved benign but mildly chronic. In short, Ms. Varkey is careless and rushed, not committed to the field of urology at all.
