Dr. David M. Benglis, Jr., M.D. was born and raised in southwestern Louisiana. He completed his undergraduate training with high honors at the University of Texas at Austin earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Microbiology and attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio graduating with honors through the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) society.

During medical school, Dr. Benglis accepted a one-year position as a Howard Hughes research scholar at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where he worked in the National Cancer Institute (NCI) performing cutting edge research under the direction of Dr. Paul Roche, Phd.

He graduated from his neurosurgical residency at the University of Miami in 2011. From 2007-2009 Dr. Benglis completed a two-year non-ACGME advanced subspecialty fellowship in spinal neurosurgery under the guidance of his spine mentors Dr. Alan Levi, M.D., Phd., Dr. Michael Y. Wang, M.D., Dr. Steve Vanni, D.O., and Dr. Barth Green M.D. …who directs one of the largest spinal cord injury research centers in the country; the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

During these two years in fellowship, Dr. Benglis developed a particular surgical interest in adult degenerative scoliosis and the treatment of various spinal problems through minimal access approaches. Dr. Benglis has recently authored various book chapters and journal articles on these specific topics.

I have been seeing Dr. Benglis for 5 years and he has performed several surgeries through my spine. He always shows the most sincere concern for me and my degenerative spinal issues. For me, there is no one else I would trust more with looking out for my best interests. On multiple occasions, Dr. Benglis has consulted with specialists and brought other surgeons in on my case. Additionally, everyone I interact with at Atlanta Brain & Spine are exceptionally helpful, knowledgeable and kind.

Had fusion surgery at L4-L5, L5-S1. The care I received was excellent and the surgery was better than expected. Sorry I waited so long to have this done, but glad I found Dr. Benglis.

Super nice at first and acts concerned but unless its a clear cut problem has no interest in helping you otherwise. Writes you off as if you don't matter anymore.
