Dr. David Christopher Ring, MD

Only giving 1 star because 0 is not an option. Please don't see this man. I presented with a minor break in my left wrist, and he had a resident put me in a cast to return in 2 weeks. Stating that I might not need surgery. I never saw X-rays, no physical assessment performed, no info provided. At 2 weeks he advised that I did need surgery "like he had advised at my first appointment." I was told my surgery could wait until he was back from his vacation. I had a bad gut feeling so sought a second opinion at Texas Orthopedics. I was advised at that appt that what had been a minor break was now quite severe and surgery had to occur and ASAP. I will be having a hand trauma surgeon perform it. Please do not see him.

Ring has serious trouble empathizing with, respecting, and communicating with his patients. He is rude, condescending, and unwilling to explain his medical opinions and decisions to his patients. His emphasis on 'psychological' treatment is a result of his inability to relate naturally to his patients. Lacking in interpersonal skills, he is forced to rely techniques from psychotherapy that he has had to learn. And the techniques are all there - the loaded questions, the twisting of words, the attitude of superiority. Ring's approach to 'comprehensive' care is to try to manipulate you into simply accepting what he has to say. If you don't, he will just leave the room, as he did to me five minutes into my most recent appointment. Go and see Ring if you would like a rude and cold man to tell you that his door is always open if you want to talk about your feelings. For my part, I'll pass.

Every time I complain of pain, I am told it's psychological. Such a shame. Should never have become a doctor if all you're going to do is dismiss patients. Rude.

Dismissive and arrogant. I am left with a deformed hand. Sought another opinion from top notch Boston doc: “well, (Ring’s) approach would not have been mine. There’s no repair option now.” Worst doctor ever.

He did a cubital tunnel release for me. Post surgery I was surprised at how little pain I had. I had use of my hand same day. Two weeks recovery time to full use. The whole experience end to end was first class top notch. He listened and explained with care. He answered all of my many questions and was always accessible. All surgery staff...also top notch! I highly recommend him!

I walked away from Dr. Ring's office almost in tears out of frustration, confusion, and despair. I've had recurring pain in my wrist due to a cyst for several years, I've even had it treated with some success after draining it several years back. The cyst has returned slowly (as was somewhat expected) and I went to see Dr. Ring once the pain became more bothersome hoping to have it drained again. I was shocked to hear him tell me, as he did others, that the pain must be all in my head and I should go about my life as usual. This in no way accords with the recommendation of my primary physician or the previous ortho I saw several years ago, or my own experience of increasing discomfort and pain. I have a great deal of respect for the mind/body connection, but I don't think this guy knows what he's doing. The cost of seeing a doctor is great these days, between the time and money it sets you back, my suggestion to others is that they invest elsewhere.

I went to Dr. Ring for a distal radius fracture. The entire facility's staff was incredibly accommodating and the overall visit was very pleasant (for having a broken wrist). Dr. Ring was kind and patient. He explained everything clearly, using my x-rays as useful diagrams. He also listened extremely well and made sure I got an appointment time that worked well for me for the next visit. One of the most calm and skilled doctors I've had. I would definitely recommend Dr. Ring to anyone.

After 2 visits and a phone call with Dr. Ring, I was left confused and in tears. I've been suffering with trigger for about 6 months. At my first visit he indicated he would help me if I waited and came back. At my next visit about a month later, the carrot of a cortisone shot was moved again and he told me to wait another month and message about him about how my finger was doing. I waited a month and then Dr. Ring told me over the phone he would not give me a cortisone shot. He speaks in riddles, and offered no solution to my pain. I will be looking for another doctor. I wish I had read and heeded the other reviews before I saw him.

I fled his office after that visit. He was obnoxious - one of those doctors who really thinks he is god. He belittled me and the other hand surgeon when I handed over the report from my previous hand surgeon. When I closed the door his mentor said something to him like "you didn't handle that well." I don't want any mea culpas from him like that patient he operated on, on the wrong area. I had to get a new surgeon because my employer dictated which doctors I could now see.

I was referred Dr. Herndon by One Medical Group who has always referred me to wonderful specialists. Dr. Herndon unfortunately, had a long wait in order to get an appointment. Dr. Ring had appointments available the next day. I have been having wrist pain for the past 3 months and for the past few weeks the pain became worse and was affecting my sleep, could not put direct weight on it, etc. I also had what felt like a cyst on the wrist. I figured to see Dr. Ring since he could take me the next day- what a mistake!! After waiting and hour to be seen, I was finally taken into the exam room. A research assistant came in and asked if I would participate in a study about chronic pain. I agreed and filled out a quick survey. Waiting another 15 minutes, I was then seen for all of 10 minutes by Dr. Ring. He looked at my wrist, told me I had a cyst which was harmless and that the pain was all physiological. He said "you are young and expect to be pain free but when you get to my age do you… except to have no pain? I am very healthy and have pain that I live with." I told him I did hope to have as little pain in my life as possible. He then proceeded to say that I could do all the yoga and sleep perfectly well now that I know all my pain is physiological. Dr. Ring filled out my chart and was said "look, I have a pre-made clip I place in patients charts since this is so common. You need time to reflect on what I said since it is a lot to take in." He asked if I wanted to make a follow up appointment in a month which I declined. I immediately went to get a second opinion. The doctor took an x-ray (who would have thought!) and I had a Lunate fracture. He also addressed my cyst and options for treatment. Dr. Ring is one of the worst doctors I have seen â?? only cares about his "study"! If I could give him 0 stars I would!
