Dr. Dean Firschein

Dr. Firschein is a genius. Allergy and immunology are wildly intricate systems, and he really knows his stuff. He is well trained, as he attended some of the country's best medical programs. He's been in practice for decades, so he's experienced. He takes his time with patients, and he answers every question. If you have a health issue that falls within his area of specialization, he can probably fix it. I highly recommend him.

He missed an important diagnosis because he didn't understand how to interpret the test results. Never took a full history or review of my symptoms to evaluate the problem. Would not allow me to make appointments. Sent me down rabbit trails trying to find the source of the problem when the answer was obvious all along. But he still denies it. My condition kept getting worse and I kept asking what else could be causing this. Like talking to a brick wall. He kept telling me there are no other tests or treatment. In fact there are many other tests he could have done and my test results support a diagnosis. Dr. Firschein terminated me as a patient when I asked for additional testing. Says it is not his specialty but that's not what he said 3 years ago when he confidently said no you don't have this condition. He never offered to get me to the right kind of specialist to evaluate it. Looking back he actually discarded me as a patient after the very first visit but simply dragged it out for… over 3 years. He is not the worst doctor I have seen but definitely had the worst impact on my life. He could have helped me more than other any doctor if he had been trying. Either he had extreme medical ignorance about my condition or else he decided from some sort of personal prejudice that he did not want to treat me and just wanted to get rid of me. Maybe both. I could forgive a lot with a genuine apology but this man is too arrogant to admit a mistake or work with you to find a solution to the problem.

I had such a bad experience with this practice. I was referred here because Dr. Firschein is supposed to be good at figuring out hard to diagnose problems. I wanted to be tested for food allergies. He sent me down a rabbit trail investigating other things never getting to the real problem. This caused huge problems getting the proper testing and treatment from other doctors. The nurses are so rude and one called me trying to coach me into to choosing a new primary care doctor, sorry what business is that of theirs? When I asked him to refer me to a new allergist, similarly she lectured me rudely on things I had talked about with him. When other doctors see things in his notes they dismiss my symptoms, or talk down to me. It snowballs to the point where you can't get things done anywhere because every conversation revolves around debating something Dr. Firschein said. He seems like a nice person so it really does not make sense but I truly feel like there is something wrong here. The… problems I had with their records and referrals are life altering, but they seem to be unable to understand my feedback on this. I was told brusquely to take it up with corporate. Be careful before following any advice from Dr. Firschein.

Dean Firschein is a total hack,the worst allergist on the planet. He had me pay an insane amount of money directly to him for a non FDA approved treatment when my insurance was willing to pay for the cure the whole time. Dr Firschein is an incompetent,money grubbing hack

Dr. Firschein is one of the rare doctors who spends time to relate to his patients and truly wants to get to know them. He asks insightful questions regarding all of their health care needs if he feels it necessary to ones total well being and is not afraid to seek opinions or suggest referrals if an ailment is not responding to his area of expertise. He is serious but has a good sense of humor. Even though it doesn't request information regarding the office staff, I also rate them a 5!

After many many suggestions to visit this practice, we did. I rely strongly on word of mouth from my friends, family, and community about their personal experience. When I asked for help on who to see, I was told by 30+ people that Dr. Firschein was, hands down, the best around. I had no idea what to expect besides, we have a sick little girl that really needs help with allergy problems. I'm reluctant to give 5 star reviews when sharing my experience, I try and be as honest and thorough as possible in hopes of helping others. I've had more than my share of some really bad doctor experiences/office staff experiences. This doctor is probably the best doctor I have ever come into contact with. The entire office is probably the best office I've ever come into contact with. A few of the words I would use to describe Dr. Firschein would be: highly intelligent, straight to the point, warm, caring, assertive, and determined. If I were any doctor in the Athens area, I would pay you a lot of money to duplicate what you're doing, because most have it completely wrong and waste their patients time. Your office was easy, no unneeded wait times, and everyone worked efficiently to get us in and out, while at the same time, getting to business. I took my 3 year old son to see Dr. Firschein because I suspected he had allergies. My son doesn't like dr very much and quit shy. Dr. Firschein was AMAZING with him. He played and communicated well him. He did cry during scratch test but Dr. Firschein helped immediately relieve his discomfort making him laugh. Believe it or not my son said when we left said he liked people who give shots now. lol He was very thorough with me, kind and very kid friendly. I recommend him to all moms looking for an allergist especially at young age. My son left happy!! And when he happy Im happy.

I highly recommend Dr. Firschein for allergy, asthma and pulmonary ailments. He took the time to ask me questions, listen to my responses and then order appropriate skin and blood tests to determine why I was getting ill. Due to his diligence I am beginning treatment that is targeted to my specific problem. I am grateful for his knowledge, intelligence and thoughtful approach to my medical care.

The whole staff was so friendly and kind. Especially the nurse named Nicki. She was helpful and really cared for the patients. Dr. Firschein is wonderful. He gives you a lot of insight on what is going on with your kid and is very patient when questions are asked.

After years of suffering from allergies I decided to see an allergy doctor. I was afraid they would just want to give me a bunch of drugs but was relieved to find out that natural remedies were their first choice. Since seeing Dr. Firschein I have been controlling my allergies with home remedies and no drugs at all.
