Dr. Dennis R Groothuis, MD

Dr. Dennis Groothius, oh my where do I begin... He literally gives advice and makes medical determinations based on what mood he is in at the present moment, and if he's having a bad day he takes it out on his patients. Problem is he is always in a bad mood or just really hates his job and views people who come to seem him for help as a nuisance. Ignores your symptoms and everything you try to tell him. Completely lacking communication and interpersonal skills, just sits there frowning and treats you in a very demeaning way. From what I've heard from others and personally had the misfortune to experience myself, he loves to tell everyone that their faking their symptoms, even if medical imaging shows obvious injuries. So in his view, the radiologist and imaging technician are also faking their reports. Maybe photoshopping the MRI images for yet unbeknownst reason to us mere mortals LOL. Has a bad case of God complex as others have said.

Repeatedly scheduled testing procedures for wrong body parts. Repeatedly scheduled referrals to doctors inappropriate for my condition (including a "Spine Specialist" for severe hand pain and a "Rheumatologist" for Temporal Lobe Seizures. Went on multi-week vacation during assigned procedures without any notice.

If I could give zero stars I would. He didn't even examine me and instantly declared that I am imagining my symptoms. Ignored everything I was trying to tell him. It seems I'm not the only one who had this experience judging from others reviews of this doctor. He acts like the all mighty yet in reality is quite minuscule both in patient understanding and compassion.

Horrible doctor, do not know how can he still be practicing medicine. With all due respect he should not be treating patients as he clearly has memory problems and as such made numerous contradicting statements at my appointments. He seems to be in a bad mood at all times as if he is angry at you. In addition he failed to diagnose my herniated disk and I could have avoided painful and expensive surgery. Thank goodness I am now under the care of qualified neurologist who was shocked at the way Dr. Dennis Groothuis mishandled my care. AVOID THIS DOCTOR at all costs or it can result in a very painful and costly mistake. Itâ??s not worth risking your health going to this doctor.

I was very disappointed after traveling such a long distance to see Dr. Groothuis. Due his being an expert in an issue that I have been having back to 2001. He appeared to have a pre-meditated answer, although he did allow me to talk, he walked out of the room and the student he allowed to complete a physical assessment, who was too afraid to touch me. He asked for my disks, which I gave him 4 and he came back 10 minutes later and said they all looked good. If anyone has loaded a disk in a pc, launched it and looked at their results before - it takes about that time to get through one. After he gave me his thoughts and I tried to explain again, I was questioned on what I was trying to convince him of.....I don't know what else to say.....I was just extremely disappointed, and as I indicated. As I began telling him of my issues, I could see from the look on his face, he was allowing me to go through the motions, especially since he walked out during my visit, twice. Additionally,… I forgot to mention something as I got down the hallway, so I went back to the room and excused myself for bothering him, in mid-sentence, he rudely said "We're done" and shooed me away, as if he was dismissing a peasant. He had a few questions, but with my condition lasting back to 2001 with no relief, I would have anticipated a more thorough exam and questioning or compassion. After eagerly anticipating this visit, I left crying.

Dr. Groothuis made the correct diagnosis of my extremely painful condition, prescribed the medication that brought the pain under control, and spent more than sufficient time with me on all of my appointments. Furthermore, he referred me to a neurosurgeon who proved to be highly qualified, experienced, and competent, and who ultimately resolved the underlying condition.

I was told that Dr. Groothuis was the top in his field in the NS Hospital system . I presented with Dizziness and a Speech and Gate disorder etc. I was VIOLENTLY ILL! Dr. Groothuis was Sullen Dismissive, and Brash. With in the 20 minutes I was in his presence, he determined my condition to be Emotional and Phycological, he ordered an Alpha Hydroxy level (Vit-D) blood test (after I mentioned it!), and then (as if it were an after thought), he referred me to a Movement Specialist. My impression is that this Doctor is Egotistical, has No compassion for his patients, and has a "God Complex"!

Dr. Dennis R. Groothuis is an excellent physician who is warm, professional and very comforting. He went through my MRI with me in great detail, showed me other examples of MRIs to compare so I would understand, and listened to all of my questions with utmost patience. He's very well versed in his field and can explain pretty much everything known about the human brain. I would recommend him to anyone in need of a kind, professional, knowledgeable neurologist.

i think docs make mistakes because they just see the part of the pt. that they specialize in- and the pt. must be proactive. If adds say not to take with liver disease then I think one must take a further look. This doc did not care to look.

Great doctor. Very accessible and easy to talk to. Always returns calls and e-mails.
