Dr. Eric Cecala Peterson, MD

Dr. Peterson is Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at the University of Miami MILLER School of Medicine. He graduated cum laude with a B.S. from Vanderbilt University, before spending a year researching cardiovascular disease in Kochi, India as well as Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He then received a Masters degree in physiology from Georgetown University before attending the University of Michigan School of Medicine for his medical degree. He completed a 7-year neurosurgical residency at the University of Washington, followed by a 2-year endovascular fellowship at the University of Miami Department of Neurological Surgery. As Co-Director of Endovascular Neurosurgery at the University of Miami, Dr. Peterson specializes in the surgical and endovascular treatment blood vessel disorders of the brain and spine, including aneurysms, AVMs, and tumors. He has special expertise in the treatment of retinoblastoma via direct infusion of chemotherapy into the eye, …having performed over 200 of these delicate procedures. He is able to offer both surgical and endovascular solutions to complex cerebrovascular disease, and is one of a handful of dual-trained neurosurgeons across the country. His research interests include clinical trial development for acute stroke and aneurysms, as well as techniques in minimizing radiation during endovascular procedures.
