Dr. Frank Juver Criado, MD

The Center for Vascular Intervention at Union Memorial in Baltimore has accumulated an impressive experience with stent-graft repair of aneurysms and dissection in the thoracic aorta with more than 60 endovascular thoracic implants performed to date (Sept. 02), placing our institution among the top 10 in the USA . This clinical experience has been reported in 2 recent papers appearing on respected peer-review journals. Significantly, the Centers Director, Dr. Frank J. Criado, was recently granted an Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) by the FDA, providing him and Union Memorials vascular team regulatory approval for use of customized Talent stent-grafts in the thoracic aorta, both electively and on an urgent or emergent basis. UMH can now offer case-specific devices to all patients who may be candidates for endovascular repair of thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAA), dissections, and other serious thoracic aortic lesions (i.e. traumatic aortic injuries, pseudoaneurysms, penetrating …ulcers, and intramural hematoma).

-Dr. Frank J. Criado is principal investigator of the Talent AAA trials in the United States. He has long been recognized as a thought leader in vascular surgery and endovascular intervention. His practice encompasses all aspects of vascular intervention, including large experience in the percutaneous treatment of arterial occlusive disease in, essentially, all vascular territories (including the carotid arteries).
-Dr. Criado and his team at Union Memorial have performed more than 500 stent-graft aortic procedures for minimally-invasive treatment of aneurysms of the abdominal and thoracic aorta, and other lesions
-Experience with stent-graft repair in the aortic arch and thoracic aorta amounts to over 60 implants over the past 5 years. The majority of these have been performed for endovascular treatment of aneurysms and aortic dissection.
-Dr. Criado holds his own FDA-approved physician-sponsored IDE for the clinical use of customized Talent stent grafts for repair of thoracic aortic aneurysms and other serious aortic conditions in the chest. He also has the ability to keep available thoracic devices "on the shelf" for emergent repair of the same conditions when hemorrhage or unrelenting symptoms warrant the undertaking of emergent endovascular exclusion.
