Dr. Harumi Jyonouchi, MD

Dr Jyonouchi is extremely knowledgeable in the very difficult subject of immunology. Her knowledge covers many areas of expertise. I would trust her opinion without hesitation. She is caring & very compassionate, works very well with children & the special needs population both young & older, also works with adults. She seems able to figure out what is going on after other doctors have failed. In all of NJ, she may very well be the most competent immunologist there is.

Dr Jyonouchi is extremely caring & kind, so her bedside manner can’t be beat. But even more importantly she is so knowledgeable in an area of medicine that few physicians come close to understanding. She has treated our special needs son for the last decade at least, and always with the utmost respect. She responds very quickly to questions through the patient portal. I have only very positive things to say about her & very positive experiences. I trust her opinion 100% without a doubt. I’m just so grateful we have access to the best & feel blessed!

Dr Jyonouchi has been excellent in both diagnosis and treatment of our son who has a rare disease. I know of parents of patients who travel great distances with their children to have them seen by her.

Dr Jyonouchi has been treating our son for about 8-10 years now. He originally saw her at UMDNJ/University Hospital, but she relocated to St. Peter's in New Brunswick, which is a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere compared to University Hospital. We enjoy our drives there from Morris County, compared to the other location and enjoy our time at St.Peter's. I trust Dr. J above all other doctors who treat our son. She seems to understand medicine far outside what you would expect her expertise to be. She has insight on problems & solutions that no other doctor has ever thought of, yet she's been totally accurate, where other physicians have not. I don't want to share a lot of specific details of our son's situation, but he is primarily being treated for a mild form of CVID, an immune disorder, yet Dr. J is able to tie so many other symptoms & problems of his, seemingly unrelated, into his care. She is very compassionate & understanding, a very good listener and I trust her opinions… 100%. She has earned our respect completely. She also continues to care for special needs individuals older than the typical pediatric age, which is a real bonus for us because so many other doctors just drop your child at age 18 or when hearing 22. I highly recommend her and trust her. Her accent has been difficult at times for me to understand especially considering what a very difficult topic immunology is for the typical non-medically trained person (tho my son's former pediatrician (who was wonderful in all ways and very insightful) said complex immunology is way out of her realm of understanding as well)) so it's a very deep topic, yet even if I don't fully understand it, Dr. J has no trouble understanding it & I can trust her recommendations. She's also very quick to answer questions through the online patient portal! So much ties into immunology - even GI issues, so it is amazing how much Dr. Jyonouchi has to offer. A true gem of a doctor.

Excellent physician

Dr. Jyonouchi provides excellent information, guidance and treatment for pediatric autoimmune issues. She is a compassionate and wonderful person as well. She listens to you, but there is no waiver in her voice or approach to how to treat your child. When your child has an autoimmune issue like ours, it is difficult for some providers to have a clear direction for you. Dr. J does not like to "shoot in the dark". She gives you tx that she recognizes through her experience and research works. She does her own blood work and seems to know what she's looking at. I don't think every doctor does understand what to look for or how to treat the source of the problems a child is experiencing. Her work and the counseling from her nurse Agnes, gives you direction regarding how to treat your child's main medical issue and why. We have seen dramatic improvements in our child. Now that she is at St Peter's Hospital in New Brunswick, I don't know who to talk to via phone. Agnes was a… treasure and would explain things on a level I never heard from another nurse - extremely bright and knowledgeable. Someone please steal her from UMDNJ and bring her to St. Peters to work alongside Dr. J again. We miss her. But we are so relieved we have Dr. J and she is even closer to us now. I wish someone would clone Dr. J and Agnes.
