Dr. Hilliard Michael Haik, MD

I used Eye Medical Center for cataract surgery. My rating is one star because it was the lowest I could select. At my doctors recommendation I used the vivity lens on both eyes. After surgery my eyes were blurry though I tested 20/20 in one eye. That's no consolation if your vision is blurry. Despite complaining, my doctor seemed uncaring. Then the bad part started. First he did laser surgery on the right eye. That did not help so I was told to go home and wait a few months to see if it cleared up. Next I changed doctors at Eye Medical Center. He did laser surgery on the left eye. This was done months after the original surgery. What I learned later is the following; 1. The vivity lens is NOT the correct lens to use if you have macular degeneration, which I have. 2. My vision should have been clear immediately or within a week or so if there were complications. My vision never cleared up. 3. The YAG surgery can be performed within 30 - 60 days… after the initial cataract surgery but in doing so you destroy the lens support of the sac holding the lens. This is fine if your lens are working properly but what if they need to be changed? 4. The lens can be changed fairly easily within four months of the initial surgery. In my case the vivity lens did NOT work, so I was a candidate to go back and replace them with the standard lens. 5. My complaint is as follows; a. The vivity lens should not have been used with my macular degeneartion or I should have been notified of the issues. I was not informed. b. By waiting past the critical first four months any additional surgery became more difficult due to the lens being scarred into place. This is normal. I should have been offered a replacement lens but that was NEVER discussed. I had no way of knowing. c. By performing the YAG surgery the doctor made it all but impossible to replace the vivity lens. To do so now would be at a far greater risk and the new lens would have to be supported since the sac has been damaged. d. I now live with a blurred vision. Upon complaining my initial doctor said to me; "Well at least you have 20/20 vision!". That was the last time I saw him. e. What are my options at this point? It appears that I will go into my later years with blurry vision. It took the joy out of driving and, though I try to hold no ill feelings, these doctors should have known better. Other options will be entertained as they become available. This was a horrible experience! Get a second opinion from another group of doctors prior and after if you have issues. Didn't even dilate my eyes when I came in for sudden blurry vision in one eye and pressure. I don't feel as though I got a thorough exam. He looked at my eyes and told me they looked perfect. I AM ecstatic about that. Just, about this blur and substantial difference in vision between my left and right. He told me to tell my next doctor that I see that it may be sinuses. Was that a referral to an allergist? An E.N.T? Should I try something to relieve the pressure? Nothing? Ok. Couldn't ask him. He'd left. Guess I'll go figure this out on my own

Went in for eye pressure and sudden blurred vision. Haven't has an eye exam in years. Was told my eyes look perfect. Never dilated them. Told me to tell the next doctor that I see it may be sinuses. Was that a referral to an allergist? Should I go find one? Um, I still have substantially different vision in one eye than the other with a sudden onset. Eye drops? It'll go away on its own? Just leave so you can get to your next patient and I'm on my own? Ok

This office is a well run machine! Your needs & time is important to them.

He performed my two cataract surgeries. I am extremely pleased.

Very good doctor. Takes time to listen to his patients. Have been going for years. Highly recommend!

After months of misdiagnosis by another eye clinic he has helped my problem. My husband and I are both now his patients. He is caring as well as his staff and that is of utmost importance.

This doctor was rude and did not fully examine my awful case of pink eye. I was sent home without any medicine or self care tips. He rushed through my appoinment in about all of 3 minutes. This was after waiting for over an hour in the standing room only waiting room. Inexperienced assistant and terrible doctor who chomps on gum the whole appointment and wears too much cologne. Stay Away!!!!

I see Dr. Haik annually for regular eye checkups. My only complaint is that Dr. Haik has the terrible habit of chewing gum during consultation; this leaves one with the impression of an untidy and unprofessional doctor (I am not saying he is one). Also, on my last visit, part of the optometry routine was handled by a very young and visibly inexperienced person who sped through the process leaving me almost no time to think my answers. I am not sure I would trust this office for something serious.
