Dr. James A Tiesi, MD

Had terrible back pain for couple years. Finally opted for surgery. Dr. Tiesi fixed my back issue 100%, zero pain now!! Was playing golf 6 weeks after surgery. Excellent surgeon was fortunate to have Dr. Tiesi take my case.

I met with Dr. Tiesi today for my initial visit and was very satisfied with my experience. He took the time to go over my MRI with me, did a physical exam, weighed my options with me and left me with a solution that I believe to be very suitable. HE IS NOT FOR THE SENSITIVE, with that said I found him some what humorous. I will update with more details post-op, but all in all I feel very confident with this choice.

Doc spent all of 2min looking at my MRI results and told me I had a little abnormality in my spine and it can be fixed with surgery. I asked about physical therapy or injections and he said they don't help that surgery is the only thing that helps on- going persistent pain. After I stated I wanted to try everything before surgery he seemed to get frustrated with me and finished the appointment abruptly with scripts to both. He was extremely short, rude, and had no bedside manner what so ever, I wouldn't let this guy operate on me to save my life!!

After two MRI's, a round of disk injections, P/T and lots of ibuprophen my sciatic pain level reached a level 10. I met with Dr. Tiesi and the day before Thanksgiving 2017 I had a left side L-5 disk decompression, hemi-laminectomy and foraminotomy. In 4 days I no longer needed the pain meds, and was released to drive 10 days post surgery. It is now 30 days post surgery and I have less back pain than I have had in 20 years. I am very, very grateful for Dr. Tiesi and his surgical skill.

He told me exactly what to do and who to see for treatment. He is not a pill pusher nor a cutter and that I appreciated. Each time I had an appointment, he had my xrays right there and showed me the problem area of a pinched nerve. Surgery may be in my future and I would consult with him if and when needed.

Dr. Tiesi operated on me for Carpal Tunnel last Dec. He spent very little time with me for the initial appt and sent me for tests. He kept me waiting 45 min for the second appt while he conversed with his colleagues outside the room I was in, (It wasn't about me and I was trying to get to work) Pre-op teaching was allmost non-existent. Post-up instruction was no better. When I asked about therapy I was told to open my hand up and close it. I asked again when the bandage was changed and also when the stitches were removed but received the same answers. Five weeks later when I saw Dr. Tiesi for the first time post-op, I still didn't have great movement in my hand, He suggested therapy at that time with a therapist who finished the day 1/2 hr before I get out of work (and I'm 1/2 hr away) 5 days a week for 3-4 weeks. I have pain in my hand and wrist where there wasn't any pre-op and I haven't gotten back the feeling in my three fingers that were a problem pre-op. I've also lost some fine… motor skills in those fingers. And I've developed a trigger finger. The doctor suggested I see a hand surgeon. I wish that was what I had done to begin with.

As many have stated Dr.Tiesi has a wretched demeanor. He insisted that surgery was unlikely to eliminate my issues. He talks at you rather than to you. I insisted that I wanted the carpel tunnel release and he did it. His demeanor right up to the surgery was condescending, bordering on insulting. He did seem to have a good rapport with the surgical staff and even made a couple of jokes with me(I had a local anesthetic).After he was finished he admitted that I needed the surgery more than he thought based on the tests. The follow up after surgery was good and I am very pleased with the result. The long and the short of it is; despite his initial impression, I would say he is a good surgeon and will take care of you very well...he just isn't going to hold your hand.

this guy disagreed with the orthopedic doctor who sent me to him. But what was funny was the pain management doctor Dr. Tiesi agreed with the ortho doctor completely (not to mention found some other things wrong)!!! This guy is arrogant and does not listen to his patients!
