Dr. John Michael Tokish

Dr. Tokish operated on my fully functioning arthritic left shoulder. The operation, after discussion and MRI's, was agreed to replace the joint with a reverse engineered joint by a group consensus of 17 of Doctor Tokish's colleagues and himself. I woke up in recovery fine but Dr. Tokish never saw me or stopped in after surgery to check. I only learned 6 weeks later (on my follow up appointment and the first time I saw this doctor after surgery) that he replaced the damaged joint with an oversized conventional joint and not the reverse engineered joint. What he didn't do was build up the existing socket to fit a smaller reverse engineered joint and basically threw the largest device off the rack into the socket. I spent 8 weeks, 2 days a week in physical therapy. It is now 2 years since doctor Tokish operated on me and I still cannot lift my left arm to feed myself nor function doing Remodeling Renovations. I had, had 2 former shoulder surgeries done in Florida and my shoulder never felt right, I was always in pain and could never lift my arm above my head. My primary physician recommended me to see Dr. Polish for his opinion. Dr. Tokish recommended surgery and after he had to reconstruct my entire shoulder, which he said was a mess I have complete use of my shoulder and pain free for first time in years. He is the best!

I was nervous but he was very reassuring. He offered alternatives and was freindly and professional.

I have met with Dr. Tokish three times and all three times I have felt comfortable with him and trust his judgement on my diagnosis. He is very easy to talk to and will take the time to explain things in a manner a country boy like myself can understand.

Dissatisfied with USAF Academy Orthopedic Clinic. Dr. Tokish misdiagnosed shoulder as rotator cuff tear and performed arthoscopic surgery only to discover the "tear" shown in MRI wasn't hanging on by a muscle tread. Total shoulder replacement took place in 2009 by a civilian orthopedic surgeon and all is well.
