Dr. Joseph Lionel Martinez, MD

Dr. Martinez is from Bloomfield, New Mexico. He received his bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and economics from the University of New Mexico in 1997. He worked as a medical researcher for two years then attended the University of New Mexico School of Medicine from 1999 to 2003. He completed his neurosurgical residency at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 2009. While at Baylor Dr. Martinez spent a year at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center cultivating his special interest in neurosurgical oncology of the brain and spine. After residency he completed a fellowship in complex spinal neurosurgery at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine.

In 2010 Dr. Martinez became a staff neurosurgeon for the Memorial Healthcare System in Hollywood, Florida. He and his wife, Rikki, soon began to miss the Southwest and with the arrival of their first child, it became clear they wanted to return home. Dr. Martinez joined Neurosurgical Associates in October 2011.

Dr. Martinez …most enjoys spending time and activities with his wife and family. Outside of work and family he enjoys music, is a student of the guitar and plays golf avidly.
