Dr. Katsuhide Maeda, MD

First and foremost, Dr Maeda has saved our sons life twice, most recently 3 days ago. He is the most professional, humble and skilled cardiac surgeon that we could have hoped for. He goes over each aspect of the diagnosis and throughly explains what is happening and what is to be done. Be wary of "Yelp-esque" reviews here, giving him anything less than 5 stars. Another perspective to them is that this person is a surgeon in one of the best pediatric centers in the nation, which makes him one of the best in the nation. He works roughly 6 days a week, 2-3 major surgeries a day (ours lasted 6 hours each time) and checks in on his patients daily. He is always busy, but compassionate. We are blessed to have been able to find him (twice!) and would have been more than happy to accommodate an hour late appointment time in order for him to be our sons surgeon. Thank you, with all our heart, Dr Maeda! Truely, a debt that we can never repay.

Our son was born with a VSD and at 2 months of age we found out he was having open heart surgery. To say we were scared was a understatement. However Dr Maeda was our choice from recommendation of our cardiovascular doctor in the Bay Area. We were rushed in at a much earlier time from our original apt due to our son not gaining wait and a ER scare. Dr Maeda moved in early to accommodate surgery for our son. We were brought to a room where he spoke with us about the procedures and what he is closing and how he will be doing so. Then it was surgery day. It was a scary 8hours waiting to hear back after handing off our son to an anesthesiology team. Thanks to this team and our faith our son went to the CICU where he got some of the best care too. Dr Maeda came in following days to check on our son as well. We are glad to have our son back healthier then before. Dr. Maeda operated on my two year old son, repairing 2 holes and a cleft mitral valve. He was very patient and generous with his time, illustrating how the heart works, explaining every aspect of the surgery, the heart defects, etc. Dr. Maeda did a beautiful job: my son had no ill effects from the surgery, and he closed up his chest wound beautifully. My father in law is a retired non-invasive cardiac surgeon, who was also a professor at Harvard. He spoke to Dr. Maeda about the surgery beforehand, and said that he was impressed with his knowledge, understanding, and demeanor. During a follow-up appointment, the man doing an ultrasound of my son’s heart said that he was in the operating room during the surgery, and he was very impressed by the way that Dr. Maeda led the operating team. He gathered them all together beforehand to talk everything out. Most impressively, he asked if anyone had any thoughts or ideas. I think this speaks highly of his character: it tells me that he… is a surgeon who isn’t about ego and vanity, but about doing an excellent job, having a good line of communication with his team, and being open to new ideas. One thing I will say is that Dr. Maeda, like many doctors, doesn’t have the warmest or most comforting bedside manner. All in all though, he did an excellent job with fixing my son’s heart, and for that I am eternally grateful to him.

Dr Maeda fixed my son's heart two years back. He understood my son's limitations and he was very patient with us asking him thousands of questions.

he didn't show u0p to our apportionment we rescheduled and he showed up 1 hour late he just said he had an emergency he was the only one taking our insurance so we couldn't go to antohr surgeon. we saw him for simple vsd a hole in the heart for my 5 month old son my son developed heart block which is a rare and supposedly unacceptable complication he told us it happens and would get better we never saw him after the surgery i feel so bad i took my baby to this man stay away
