Dr. Marion Ellen Schertzer, MD

Dr. Schertzer is an excellent physician with a wonderful bed side manner. She is very thorough and always available to answer any questions you have. It has been very difficult for me to find a decent GI doctor but I finally found Dr. Schertzer and she is one of the very best doctors that I have ever seen. She is awesome!

A very intelligent, down to earth person. I evaluated her based on her critical thinking skills. She got 5 stars. All the other bad reviews, just cant take NY personalities, which are brass tacks, no fluff. But if you want a good Dr , she is it.

She is so rude, she doesn’t deserve any stars, I would never refer anyone to her.

I had a horrible, dangerous surgery experience with Dr. Schertzer for a bowel resection. She made reckless decisions, was not thorough, rushed through the surgery, did not use proper suture techniques, and did not properly manage patient care or pain management while in the hospital. She was dismissive, rude, and abrasive towards me and my family members. When the head of colorectal surgery at the Mayo Clinic re-operated on the surgical site, he was shocked by the what they saw and made it a point to tell me to never see this surgeon again. After reading her reviews years later on HealthGrades, I am concerned by what I'm seeing--many other patients also experienced near death experiences due to Dr. Schertzer's negligence and poor surgical skills. This is not an isolated incident in any way. Please stay way from this doctor.

as a fellow physician, I can tell you this doctor has no concept of professionalism. She is always chronically late for 45-70 min which is well over an hour and she always has an excuse. she also over-promises like "I will call you to follow up" this is not true. she does NOT care about patients. she is a terrible surgeon.

I have had 2 colonoscopies with Dr. Schertzer given I have a family history of this cancer. She is confident, (a quality I value in a surgeon), a pleasure to talk with and very detailed in her review of my records as well as a very down to earth doctor with whom I am comfortable. I would highly recommend her.

I'm giving Dr Schertzer 2 stars instead of 1 because I believe she is an excellent dr in her field. However, her dismissive and rude attitude towards my family member during several visits has prompted us to change doctors. She made disbaraging comments in the hallway outside the treatment door which could be heard by all including my family member. She berated her nurse in front of many people.

I was told Dr. Schertzer requires an office visit to schedule a preventative colonoscopy so that she can review the patient's medical history and get to know them. After waiting 2 hours at my appointment, I got up to leave and had a nurse in the hall direct me back to the room saying the doctor was coming. The door was left open and I overheard Dr. Schertzer arguing with her about having to come in at that time. She stomped into the room, blamed the staff for the delay saying they were not competent with the new computer program, grabbed my file without ever opening it at all, asked me what hospital I wanted to go to and walked me to the front. I do have prior issues that needed to be discussed but was not given the opportunity. I told the office staff when they called to schedule that I would not be having the procedure with her and they billed my insurance anyway. After calling to complain, they still said because I was in the office I owed the money. I can't imagine performing any… procedure under anesthesia without knowing the patient's prior history.

Dr Schertzer helped when I was ill and having abdominal pain due to diverticulitis that would not be helped with antibiotics. I worked with Dr Schertzer so I knew her work. She helped where no other dr. would help me due to the many abdominal surgeries I had in the past..This was in January 2011. Thank you Dr Marion Schertzer

Dr. Schertzer is a wonderful, compassionate surgeon. She is immensely talented and very, very thorough. I doubt much of anything gets past her. I recommend her as strongly as I possibly can.
