He used a lot of medical terminology which made it hard for me to follow him at times.

I'm a local Dr. who needed complex surgery. I did my research on surgeons who excel in the procedure of repairing abdominal mesh and chose Dr. Richard Caplan. Surgery went well. I didn't even need post op pain meds. His office staff was excellent. I would highly recommend his services.

Dr Caplan preformed a hernia repair. 2021. He did not read my history. I have non epileptic seizures triggered by pain. He refused any meds for pain after recovery except tylenol which caused me to seize for 5 days while recovering from an open surgery in my abdomen - my GP finally prescribed me a mild narcotic for a short time (all I needed). He screamed at my mother who was taking care of me during recovery when she called FOR 5 BUSINESS DAYS- before she was able to reach someone other than receptionist. to summarize the surgery experience- traumatic. Dr Caplan was condescending, rude to me, and laughed at my concerns in OR- i was supposed to be asleep or sedated, but he saw that the typical med did not even have an effect. Anesthesia team was wonderful and kept my pain manageable while in hospital. At my post op appointment he told me “the minute I opened you up, I knew YOU were going to be a problem and I was not qualified to treat your “special needs” - I wish I had recorded… it. This big wig surgeon in the medical complex in houston on the top floor caused me many extra days off, poor healing (how do you heal with up to 36 seizures a day? Answer- you don’t. Please stay away from this monster. He caused more pain than my hernia- mentally, emotionally, and physically. Even the anesthesia team was apologizing for Dr Caplan during the surgery.

Dr. Caplan has been my surgeon for well over35 years. He's always cautious, courteous, detail oriented and professional. I couldnt trust anyone else with my care. Hes saved my life more times than I can count. He is simply the nest!
