Dr. Samantha Maplethorpe, MD

I had multiple friends, including my pediatrician, recommend Dr. Maplethorpe to me for my second pregnancy. For my first pregnancy, I used midwives (who spoiled me rotten with time, attention, and truly compassionate care) but due to complications I was compelled to use an OB for this pregnancy. Since day #1, Lakeside Family Physicians gave me every indication that the practice was too full and too busy to care for me. I tried making an appointment online, but found that the online system only allows scheduling for one day a week, every other week. I called in desperation when my first appointment was 2 months out and was able to get an earlier appointment. After that, the office misfiled my records, lost the information for my first ultrasound, accidentally added 4 weeks to my pregnancy, and refused to answer or return phone calls when I left urgent medical concerns on the answering service. The first time I had a scare over blood test results, Maplethorpe ignored my call for over… 24 hours and then left for a 2 week vacation. I have not once been able to speak to Dr, Maplethorpe over the phone, despite many attempts. The last straw was very recent. Over the weekend, I experienced abdominal pain for many hours and called the office for help, thinking I was in preterm labor. I reached a message saying the on call physician would call me back in 20 minutes. It's been 4 days and no one has returned my urgent calls. I ended up in the ER, and after two days of hospitalization, no one could locate Dr. Maplethorpe, even after calling her home and her cell phone. Finally on day #3 she called briefly to let me know it was her day off. That was the last I've heard from Maplethorpe and Lakeside Family Physicians. It has never been so clear to me, in all my experience with the medical industry, that this Dr. did not care personally about me or my baby. That is not a feeling a mother wants to have in the delivery room. Take it from me - this office may still be excepting new patients, but they are TOO FULL and TOO BUSY to give decent care, particularly for any risky pregnancies. Maplethorpe might be a good Dr if you are actually in her presence, but good luck trying to get an appointment or getting anyone to return your urgent phone calls. If you want truly personal and compassionate care for you and your baby, find a midwife, or at the very least, a different practice.

This is one of the BEST dr's I have ever been too. She is on time, courteous and really takes her time with each and every patient. She was recommended by my grandmother and now my mother, sister and daughter go to her as well.

Having moved to WA from CA, I came across Dr Maplethorpe via an article she wrote for BabyCenter. At my 1st acquaintance appt with her, she had to tell me my 9 wk pregnancy had ended as she did not detect a heartbeat. I was devastated. She handled me with amazing grace and 6 months later, I got pregnant again. She has seen me often and has had answers to all my fears. We're 5 months pregnant and so incredibly happy. She and her sweet staff deserve the highest rating! Thank you, Dr. Maplethorpe if you are reading this.

Caring, compassionate, friendly and down to earth. She treats me with dignity and respect everytime I see her. A real gem as far as family docs go!!!!

I found Dr. Maplethorpe aftermoving to the plateau and consider myself quite fortunate. Dr. Maplethorpe has excellent bed sire manner, is very caring and her compassion is genuine and sincere. My family are all not patients of Dr. Maplethorpe and everyone is happy. She makes it fun to go see the doctor :)
