Dr. William Frederick Durland, MD

Dr. Durland grew up in Monroe, North Carolina, and graduated as valedictorian at Monroe High School in 1988. At the University of North Carolina, he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and went on to graduate with honors and distinction with a degree in Chemistry in 1992. He worked in research and development at Glaxo Pharmaceuticals for one year and then attended medical school at the University of North Carolina, where he graduated with honors. While in medical school, he spent a year of dedicated research time studying the physiologic pathways of nasal allergies and also investigated the significance of tumor markers in head and neck cancers. He went on to complete his internship in general surgery and his residency in otolaryngology at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin. He finished his residency as chief resident in 2003.

Dr. Durland is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. He enjoys all aspects of …otolaryngology. He has a special interest in otology (hearing disorders and ear surgery), laryngology (treatment of voice problems), pediatric otolaryngology, rhinology (nasal allergy/sinus surgery), skin cancer reconstruction, and thyroid surgery.

Dr. Durland is married and has two young children, with one more on the way. His wife Kimberly is a native of Raleigh, where she graduated from Sanderson High School and was an accomplished swimmer with the Raleigh YMCA. Dr. Durland enjoys spending time with his family, watching ACC sports, and listening to music. He enjoys participating in many sports including basketball, golf, skiing, and fly-fishing.
