Dr. Abraham J. Fura, DO

Dr. Abraham J. Fura is a highly skilled and dedicated pain management specialist, currently practicing in Southwest Florida just south of Tampa. He completed his fellowship in Multidisciplinary Pain Management at the University of Rochester Medical Center, where he gained extensive experience in advanced minimally invasive spine procedures and performed over 2,500 interventional procedures in just one year. His passion for pain management was ignited during his residency in Anesthesiology at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he was introduced to cutting-edge technologies and had the privilege of caring for active duty military personnel and their families. Born and raised in western New York (Go Bills), Dr. Fura pursued his undergraduate studies at Niagara University, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minors in Chemistry, Commerce, and Social Science.He then earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the New York College of …Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM) in 2010, where he was recognized for his academic excellence, graduating in the top 3% of his class. Dr. Fura's medical career began in the United States Army, where he served as an officer from 2006 to 2018, achieving a final rank of Major. During his military service, he completed his transitional year internship and anesthesia residency at Walter Reed, followed by a role as Staff Anesthesiologist and Chief of the Department of Obstetrical Anesthesia at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. His leadership roles included coordinating quality assurance and improvement initiatives, further honing his skills in patient care and clinical management. After completing his pain fellowship, Dr. Fura joined the Ramos Center for Interventional and Functional Pain Medicine in 2019, where he played a pivotal role in treating up to 50 patients daily with pain-relieving injections and advanced surgical procedures. He also spearheaded the development of the center's regenerative medicine division, showcasing his commitment to innovative and holistic approaches in pain management.Dr. Fura is board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine by the American Society of Anesthesiologists. His research contributions include studies on the efficacy of genicular nerve radiofrequency ablation and experimental biology research on bone's adaptive response to altered activity patterns.Outside of his professional life, Dr. Fura enjoys weightlifting, boasting a combined bench press, squat, and deadlift total of over 1,100 pounds. He is also an avid golfer with a handicap of 8 recently winning his home club’s Member-Guest tournament.
