Dr. Adel Fahmy Samaan, MD

Dr. Samaan has been my doctor for 20 years. In fact I have followed him to different office locations because I find him kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, and wise. He treats the whole person with respect and dignity.Many times when I had an acute condition, his staff would squeeze me in ASAP, and he would be patient and caring, always the consummate professional. I go to Dr. Samaan because I feel respected as a woman. He is easy to talk to and has a soothing reassuring demeanor.I trust him completely with my health and well being. It is a pleasure being his patient.

Dr. Adel has been my primarily doctor for the last 17 years. He's one of the most sweet caring people you've ever met. He's been my gynecologist as well as my general doctor. When he's treating me, he's not in a rush --- he takes his time to actually listen to my symptoms, unlike many doctors who makes you wait an hour in the waiting room and when you're being examined, they barely talk to you and rush from one room to the other as they instruct nurses what to do. Do you know what I mean? I'm going through menopause for the past 5 years ... and he's giving me my rock throughout this process, not just medically but also offering an amazing emotional support, wise advices and down-to-earth approach on everything. LOVE that! I don't know what I'd do with Dr. Adel, to be honest. He's always laughing and smiling to everyone ....from the nurse to people waiting in the waiting room --- there is a sense of warmth and family environment and that makes a world of difference to me. … :)

I had a very negative experience at this office. I came in with a 1.5 hr lunch break for my appointment and asked if that would be enough time. A lady who overheard me ask told me that she had been there for 45 minutes already waiting. It took them an hour to get me in (to be fair the nurse at the front was clearly new and having trouble dealing with the insurance). I was getting a spot Id noticed checked out to be safe. Im a bit of a hypochondriac, and though Id been into other offices (USC medical center, with great staff) in the past about this same thing I figured I might as well get it checked. I told the doctor that Id already had a pap/exam and what the reason for my visit was. To my surprise he asked me to take off all my clothes including your bra. When the exam started he did a breast exam on me, which made me really uncomfortable. I had already had a pap/exam and this was entirely unnecessary. Im a skinny but big-chested girl and I felt like he was taking advantage of me.… He proceeded to the actual exam. He couldnt find the spot I described on his own and asked me to show him. I did and he looked for about ten seconds before announcing that what I had Looked like herpes. He said my lymph nodes were inflamed and I explained Id had a cold all week. In response to this he gave me a really suspicious look and asked if Id been diagnosed with herpes before. I said Id been tested twice and never had it. He looked at me really incredulously again, tilted his head and then got up and left the room abruptly. I was terrified. It was as if he was judging me for something, and I was shocked that he hadnt asked anything further about my medical history, and that he seemed to be making such a serious and abrupt diagnosis from an ambiguous symptom.I got dressed and went into the hall. I asked the nurse if they were going to test me before assuming I had Herpes. She said she didnt know. The doctor came out of his office and handed me a prescription. I asked what it was for and he said For the Herpes, (all of this was really crazy because what I had was a tiny red spot that had been inflamed like an infected cyst the day before and was basically already healed). I said, arent you even going to test me before diagnosing me? and he said Thats what the blood test is for. I explained that nobody had taken my blood, and he looked over at the nurse in surprise; she evidently had not known she was supposed to take my blood and I hadnt heard him ask her to do it either hed left the room so quickly. I told them that I now had only 20 mins to get back to work and that I needed them to take my blood sample quickly. The nurse started freaking out because she had no idea what collection tube to use for the sample. She called a lab on the phone to ask which tube to use and couldnt seem to understand what they were telling her. The doctor took the phone from her and told her to use the orange and black-stripped tube. He then left the office. I had 5 mins before I had to leave to get back to work on time. The nurse took me into a room and banded my arm. She tried to take my blood but couldnt find the vein. She tried three more times but couldnt get the needle in. I looked down and saw blood streaming out of my arm as she swabbed it frantically and I started to feel sick. She said shed have to try the other arm and tied if off. She put the needle in and again failed. I was on the verge of tears. I said, I have to go, I have ten minutes to get back to work, it takes me 15 to get there, and I would frankly rather go to a rapid testing center. She said, Please dont leave, I really need to do this, looking really frantic. I told her I was leaving and Id call them.I went to a rapid testing center as soon as I got home, panicking and sobbing as my roommate drove me. The man who took my blood got the vein on the first try and told me if somebody tries to take your blood twice and fails it is illegal for them to try a third time and you should be given a new nurse. Getting the test was really expensive but I couldnt wait I was really panicking. Two days later the results came back negative for both Herpes type 1 and 2.This was the worst doctors visit I have ever had. It was extremely unprofessional. For a doctor to show such callous patient-care, to express strong certainty that a patient has a disease before testing, and to make no effort to ask about the progression or history of the symptoms is ludicrous. I strongly caution anyone who is thinking about seeing doctor Samaan. He displayed severe insensitivity, rash thinking, and lack of knowledge of compassionate medical practice.
