Dr. Akhil Chhatre, MD

I have suffered from chronic debilitating pain since receiving a gunshot wound through the hip and a serious back injury in combat in Vietnam many years ago. When I met Dr. Chhatre in 2014, I was often forced to use a wheelchair, severely restricting my mobility, and was taking two kinds of opioid medications to cope with the ever-present pain. Adding to my stress was the fact that I had no real hope of improvement, as the Veterans Administration offered little beyond medication, and occasionally physical therapy, for its chronic pain patients. Since 2014 I have been receiving radiofrequency nerve ablations and nerve blocks from Dr. Chhatre to treat the severe chronic pain in my hip and lower back. In my case, the results have been transformational. I have had tremendous improvement in my mobility; I have significantly decreased the amount of medications needed to handle my pain; and I have enjoyed a vast improvement in the overall quality of my life. Dr.Chatre, is a very thorough physatrist, his mannerisms are above and beyond professional. He is very attentive to you as a patient and listens to all your concerns about your health issues. I have not been able to find any type of relief for my back in 9 years and he has given me some relief with his knowledge and education in back pain and rehabilitation treatment. The test he gave me to see what his best option of treatment would be for me were point on. I expected to find both knowledge and resources at a world class hospital such as Hopkins. Indeed, I am very grateful to have found Dr.Akhil Chhatre. His professionalism and care include kindness and empathy. He remembers me as a individual and has partnered with me to attain a quality of life I had not thought possible.

V poor experience. He is arrogant, uninterested in patient history, rushes through the appointment in less than 10 minutes.. Does not review history or evaluate or explain his evaluation. Very poor reflection on quality of care at Johns hopkins! Extremely disappointing!

Dr. Chhatre was able to treat my issue with fantastic results. I cannot thank him enough. 1 year ago I was in so much pain I had to lie down in his Waiting Room...now I'm in Nursing School. Very pleased.
