Dr. Alan J. Gelenberg is the Shively/Tan Professor and Chair of Psychiatry at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Prior to that, he was a faculty member at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard, M.I.T., the University of Wisconsin, and the University of Arizona. Gelenberg served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. He is currently editor-in-chief of the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry.
Dr. Gelenberg completed his residency in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
Board-certified in psychiatry, Dr. Gelenberg has published more than 260 scientific articles, editorials, and book chapters.
