Dr. Alejandro Leali, MD

I was going for knee surgery and went for a second opinion. He found out that my hip was the main problem!!! Explained everything and recommended a hip injection instead. Perhaps surgery in the future but not the knee. Great HSS doctor

I was hesitant to post this, but felt like I think in general, the care of this doctor is a mere 2 stars. I went in with knee pain, I'm a past patient with HSS, having had a multiple knee reconstructions. He was rude and arrogant right off the bat. He cut me off numerous times and talked over me...how the heck do you know what a patient's concerns are when you talk like that?! What looked like to him was a healthy mid 20s female. He stated, just based off how I answered a question..."You're fine there's nothing wrong with you. If you really had pain you wouldn't say 'I don't know!' " He still proceeded to write a script for a CTT scan...this is where the answers for my chronic pain became evident. Perhaps he's used to patients coming in screaming in agonizing pain, but I'm not like that. I have a life to live, and yes I have a serious knee condition but I do not in anyway have to justify what I am telling you how I am physically feeling. I could tell he ordered the CT scan for his own… ego-to clarify I think mostly on his part to show I was "faking it." Nope, there were clearly holes that never healed from a past "top knee surgeon at HSS." He immediately changed his demeanor and realized that I'm not lying or looking for a pity party, but trying to figure out a solution/gain access to a credible surgeon that actually has the awareness and respect for what medicine truly is. Yes, I see that there are patients that come in and at times are not really in need for immediate care, but it's also UNPROFESSIONAL to generalize all patients...why are you getting paid the money that you do if you so swiftly judge without checking??? At this point, I think most of the surgeons at HSS have reached a level of apathy that is dangerous and damaging to the medical system. They come in for the paycheck but are emotionally and professionally checked out. I can easily say it stems from the fact very few surgeons themselves, have had any sort of chronic pain, or past surgery patients...there's a disconnect and its obvious.

Had thigh pain misdiagnosed as low back nerve compression. Dr. Leali actually examined me and found out that the pain was coming from the hip. Had a hip replacement a few months ago and I'm completely recovered. He was excellent, has great bedside manners and is a great surgeon and doctor. He leads an excellent team of surgeons.
