Dr. Aleksandr Dekhtyar, MD

Dr. Dekhytar is a very compassionate dedicated doctor. He takes the time to talk with both the patient and family. He has helped our son tremendously and we are very grateful. Dr. Dekhytar and his staff always get back to us when we reach out to them. I would highly recommend him.

I had been a patient of Dr. Dekhytar in 2014 -2015, since my visit to Alexian. Shortly after 2015, my insurance required that I switch to an "in Network" I recently returned to Dr. Dekhtyar in 2019, and Dr. had complete recall of our prior work and therapy. He is intelligent, compassionate, caring and firm in his resolve that "I had to continue to set goals and maintain responsibility to myself". He's also supportive to make me aware that "I need to set healthy boundaries", and "I need to seek out more happiness in my life". I do have some new issues and need to address these as well. OK, so I always bring "tasks at hand" so that I optimize my time in case of any wait time. The Staff is GREAT, & very pleasant & supportive.

Dr. Dekhtyar did not see me until 24 hours after my admittance to Alexian Brothers Behavior Health Hospital, Unit 2S. He belittled my comment that I was suffering from migranes, even though the nursing and therapy staff witness my throwing up every 4 hours because I was not allowed access to my glasses, and I am almost legally blind without them. The second day he commented that I "thought I was over intelligent" and said that in his experience, "intelligent people ask questions and are curious." He was obviously projecting his own limitations, because he chose to review medical information from over 10 years ago instead of asking me what currently happened. He punished me by not allowing me access to my computer or outdoor space when I asked to switch doctors, and threatened that I was going to have to stay in inpatient longer if I requested a new doctor. On the third session, always occurring after 9pm in the evening, I requested that a staff nurse be present in the meeting with… the Doctor. Only then did he agree to discharge me. Based on my bloodwork/labs from the ER, my thyroid was underperforming, I had pre-diabetic glucose levels, and my CBCs illustrated by bloodwork concentrations were lower than when I was undergoing chemotherapy 2 years prior.

Dr. Dekhtyar has been my psychiatrist for the past two years. He has been extremely patient and attentive to my needs and very thorough and accurate in treating my condition, which has been very treatment resistant. I have two very difficult to treat disorders, as well as comorbidities and he is very knowledgeable with all and is determined to help me through it. The waiting time for his office visits do tend to be long, but I understand, as he is affiliated with the behavioral health hospital and is tending to patients there as well as the patients in his office. The office staff have recommended me to call before my appointment and ask for the estimated wait time so that I don't have to wait in the office so long if he is running behind. It is worth the wait, in my opinion. If you are willing to handle the longer wait times, you will not be disappointed, as Dr. Dekhtyar is a truly caring and considerate doctor who will not give up on you. I highly recommend him to anyone in need of… psychiatric services.

I was recently at a Rehabilitation Facility in which Dr. Dekhtyar was assigned to be my Psychiatrist. I was very pleased to see him again, as I was a patient of his over 9 years ago, and he is helping/helped me recover from my relapse. I only left his practice, because My insurance at the time was Not IN Network with him, and I also lived more than 25 miles from his office.

Run far away from "Dr" Dekhtyar. He is the most incompetent doctor I have ever dealt with. I used to see one of the nurse practitioners at the facility, but after she left, I had no choice but to see this arrogant man. Not only is he late... average of 1.5-2hrs late!!!!, but he acts like you're just a money source and doesn't show any care for your actual need to see him. When I complained about the lateness, his response was that he's a doctor and anything he does is considered acceptable. I should just deal with it. He also chose to take a phone call as soon as I got into his office and discussed personal medical information on the phone about a patient, including their first and last name. He also constantly prescribes the wrong dosage of my medication, even after correcting him each visit. His response: as long as you know what to take it doesn't matter if the dosage is wrong. This guy should not be allowed to practice. Avoid Dr Dekhtyar!

He was very sweet to me and super nice! hes caring and is very attentive to what i need. he is the best doctor by far that i have ever had! i will continue to go see him as much as possible. i definitly reccomend him to everyone. ten stars!

By far best Doctor I have seen. I have visited (7) Doctors over the past 15 years, and none are close to Dr D in excellence.

This psychiatrist is extremely motivated by money. I highly suggest you research the amount of benefits he receives from pharmaceutical reps and companies. He will prescribe what the reps want him to prescribe so that he can be awarded with money, vacations, etc. You may see the constant in and out of reps waiting on him, even bringing in lunch almost daily. He caters to Russian patients as he is from Uzebekistan. Money hungry psychiatrist. He double books appointments so be ready to wait 1-2 hours in the waiting room. Please do research before calling for an appointment.

I actually am a nurse who works with this Dr whom in my opinion has given up on his affiliations at the hospital it seems he has became greedy over time and stopped caring about the patients he used to be wonderful its sad he has became this way.
