Alexander Kuffer, MD, DMD, PHD

Dr. Kuffer is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon at USF Health, offering expert care in brain and spine conditions, including cerebrovascular and skull base disorders, brain and spine injuries and spinal deformities. He also holds a special interest in advancing treatment options in these areas through research. In his academic role, Dr. Kuffer serves as assistant professor in the department of neurosurgery, brain and spine, teaching the next generation of expert neurosurgeons.

Dr. Kuffer earned both his Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degrees from the University of Bern, followed by a PhD in Molecular Life Science from the University of Zurich. He completed his neurosurgery training at the University Hospital Zurich and an additional spine surgery training at the Schulthess Clinic Zurich. Dr. Kuffer further advanced his training with a cerebrovascular fellowship at North Shore University Hospital in New York and a neurosurgery fellowship at USF Health …Morsani College of Medicine. He previously served as an attending neurosurgeon at both University Hospital Zurich and the Schulthess Clinic Zurich. Dr. Kuffer is an active member of several prestigious professional organizations, including the Swiss Medical Association, the Swiss Society for Neurosurgery and the American College of Surgeons.
