Dr. Alexander Sandor Roka, MD

I have had Dr. Roka as my doctor for over 15 years. He is a great doctor. However, whoever is running this practice now is terrible. It’s nothing but PAs who want to add a ton of additional tests for no reason. I went in for a referral to a sleep lab for my snoring. I was told by the PA that I have chronic fatigue and trouble sleeping at night. I did not say any of that, and I told her I never said those things. She said they needed to run an EKG and additional tests just to provide a referral to a sleep lab for snoring. I tried to be polite and asked if all of this was necessary, and the PA became very aggressive about why she needed all of these additional tests done. Needless to say, I walked out and will be getting a new primary care physician. It seems like the PAs are more interested in lining their pockets with additional appointments and tests rather than treating the actual patient.

We have had nothing but a great experience with Dr. Roka he is right on with diagnosis and treatment. He is very caring with his patients. When I didn’t have insurance he always tried to make sure I left with sample meds, to help out. Now that I have insurance I wouldn’t go anywhere else. He sees my elderly mom, among others in my family and we all love him.

Dr. Alexander Roka has been my physician for over 10 years! The front staff is extremely friendly and nice at this time. Over the years, I have dealt with rude receptionists who place patients on hold for over 15 - 20 min. I will not be returning to this practice after dealing with the shortage of strep test kits. There are always new faces when it comes to PAs and assistants taking vitals. The PAs have always been very professional and helpful but with lacking resources all they can do is apologize. I am disappointed in Dr. Roka and the way he has let his business deteriorate. If he focused on these reviews and actually addressed the concerns, he could have a very solid practice with returning patients. It is very difficult to book an appointment with Dr. Roka himself. He is a very down to earth, friendly, knowledgeable doctor but his two locations will continue to suffer with poor ratings and disgruntled patients if he does not remedy simple quick fixes like better customer service… over the phone and having medical test kits on hand. I called up the Texas Med Clinic at Stone Oak and questioned a rep there about having strep kits. He replied, "Yes, we have them and are only $36 per test private pay". I will not be returning to this clinic ever again. Do the same until Dr. Roka begins to take note and act on his patients' concerns and constructive criticism. P.S. I grew up in the Stone Oak area and am a native to San Antonio.

Dr Roka is a decent dr but his staff and wife are horrible. The privacy violations are non stop, the wait time is outrageous and they do things unnecessary to get more money. The phlebotomist is rude and bad at her job. The doctors wife should never be allowed in that office again. The way she talks to staff is horrible and I’m surprised the dr allows it and staff stick around. No wonder there’s always new people when I go in.

Dr. Roka listens. He's thorough and competent. His PAs and nurse practitioners are the best. Have been seeing him for 6+ years. AT

Dr. Roka is the best! I have long searched for a doctor in San Antonio that would understand me. He listened to my concerns. The very first day he pulled blood to run test on everything. Booked a follow up and got great information from him. He's my doctor for life! Kelton Day

Dr. Roka himself is a nice man, however, his office staff is BEYOND AWFUL. If I could give ZERO stars I would. They will hang up on you multiple times, they don't answer the phone at all sometimes, getting an appointment is impossible unless you don't mind going in a week after you are sick and they can be quite rude at times. I had some blood testing done and it took them A MONTH AND A HALF to get my results to me. I called on multiple occasions with no return call and they kept telling me they would get them to me as soon as they had them. I have needed a referral from them to go to specialists and they won't do it. They do not communicate effectively with patients and I always feel like a burden when I call them. I voiced my concerns to Roka himself, however, it did not seem to matter and nothing changed. He assured me things would be taken care of but they have not. DO NOT CHOOSE ROKA AS YOUR PCP!!

This doctor is never available. I figured he must be good so I booked an appointment a month in advance. Had to wait in the waiting room over an hour to be seen. Such a waste of time. Why make an appointment if you don’t have the time of day. Either this doctor is extremely overbooked or the office is not managed properly.

This office has been suffering for along time. I’ve seen it go from great to horrible through the years. The front office is in shambles. They’re either understaffed and/or the staff they have is just HORRIBLE. 2 weeks to get a refills executed. 2 months to get a referral executed. I’ve had at least 10+ issues with them in 2018. I finally decided to voice my concern to a PA and she said , verbatim, “you’re my third patient TODAY that’s said something like this”. She assured me my issues would be addressed and she apologized. Getting to the final nail In the coffin, begging of the year, I got a earful from a Kaplan graduate how the laws have changed and I couldn’t get a certain medication refilled when I attempted to refill THE SAME MEDS IVE BEEN GETTING FOR YEARS. She said I’d need to see a psychiatrist to get my meds now. I told her, a heads up notices may have sufficed instead of waiting till I’m out of meds. She raised her voice and hung up on me. I called back and spoke with the… office manager who was quick to take defense but he ultimate admitted “I’m sorry about taking x amount of days to get back to you in regards to your request for refill as there was no excuse ” he informed me a few girls , including the referral coordinator were just let go and they have a “great new staff”. So he asked me if I needed that psych referral. I obliged. He transferred me to his new and improved referral coordinator. Takes her a whole week to get back to me and tell me that the doctor I chose is out of network but offers to choose a random psych. I tell her SURE THANKS without a gripe. So weeks have passed with no interaction because I’ve had the flu and pneumonia and haven’t been on top of them like I normally would. Most amazing thing happened today, I called and they act confused and tell me there’s no referral, I’m actually not a current patient! Wow! Now I’m stuck without meds, in a scramble to find a primary care and then a psychiatrist in 2 days all while I thought everything was fine and dandy as per my last contact with them. This new and improved referral Cordinator assured me she’d have it done “right away” but instead they terminate me without notice. Unbelievable. These people don’t value their old patients and they most certainly won’t value you. Save yourself the hassle and move along to the next doctor in your neighborhood. This office obviously isn’t at the top of Rokas priorities anymore and is just a money grab for him before he finally lets it go. Just retire already while you have some dignity, Roka. Or Maybe hire a comprable office manager/staff and you’ll start seeing your business ratings improve instead of so many furious “customers” . Now Off to go file this same complaint else where now because no patient should ever be treated this way...
