Dr. Alice Marie Mcknight, MD

I had the best experience with Dr. McKnight. For starters, every appointment I had started EARLY! When does this ever happen at a doctor’s office? I felt heard, understood, and cared for. I was specifically there to change my birth control plan. We had a great discussion and I came back the next day to make an IUD switch. It was done with lots of care and lots of efficiency. She explained everything she was doing as she was doing it and helped me remain calm and as pain free as possible for the <10 minute procedure. She is one of the best doctors I have ever been to. I had very negative experiences with my last 2 OBGYNs so she was an absolute breath of fresh air.

I saw Alice McKnight briefly. I can see why people find her overwhelming. She was too in your face for me, so I stopped seeing her. I'm looking for a gynecologist right now. I'm noticing that a lot of the older female doctors have some of the worst reviews. I wonder if this has to do with their going through menopause. That is a time when your hormones are raging. For some of these doctors, their patients say things like, she used to be great, but since lately she's changed. I'm having a hard time finding a female doctor. Some of these reviews are scary. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I may have to consider choosing a male doctor.

I'm a nurse who has worked with her. I've read the bad reviews and you all have described her perfectly. If you ask her a question, she's very rude and short. I'm just happy I'm in the hospital setting and get to see certain doctors for who they really are. I wouldn't recommend her.

I'd rate a 0, if I could. She seemed fine during office visits, brusque and a bit dismissive (I always waited longer than the time she spent with me and I rarely waited long...), but generally fine. When it came time for me to be induced, she came on shift that evening. I have never been treated worse in my life. She was wholly dismissive and nasty about my birth plan, had zero care about my choices (mind you, the baby was at no point in distress). She entered the room like a tornado and expected me to just bend to a ton of invasive procedures I expressly didn't want. When I tried to slow her down to even have a chance to breathe, to think about all the things she was demanding, to discuss them with my doula (considering she conveniently only entered my room the few brief times my doula was not present), she snapped at me, "You don't need a doula. You need a psychiatrist!" Never in my life have I been treated so unprofessionally, rudely and disrespectfully. I actually… scheduled a C-section for later that day, when she went off shift, just so this woman would not come close to touching me or my son ever again. Yes, I said that. I chose invasive surgery from someone else to avoid this woman (there were other considerations, but this was the deciding factor)! I cannot express enough how traumatizing this was or how unbelievably horrible she was. She didn't listen, didn't care. I was a job. She knew all, her word was law and to be enforced immediately without consent or consideration, to heck with my comfort, wishes, etc. You know, because child birth is just like having a wart removed or something...:sarcasm...: Even the nursing staff at INOVA Alexandria seemed completely bothered by her. When we decided to "fire" her and schedule the c-section, all my nurses did what they could to help make it all work. They, as professionally as they could, confirmed it wasn't just me, that this was just how she was and that they were very sorry. From many, many other reviews, I'm both saddened (for them) and glad to see it wasn't just me. This woman has no business treating patients, let alone those in such a stressful, difficult position as labor. I wish I had more powerful recourse than simply writing this review, but this will have to do.

I have taken a moment to read the reviews listed here by other women and I, quite frankly, am baffled. I began seeing her when pregnancy results proved positive with my youngest child. Dr. McKnight saw me through that complicated (bleeding placenta with tons of bedrest) pregnancy and birth. I loved her methods and no nonsense personality so much that I recommended her to my daughter for the birth of my eldest granddaughter. She also diagnosed the Papilloma tumors in my right breast. Since I've moved to Richmond where, sad to say , I have not been able to receive the same level of service Dr. McKnight afforded me. I found her to be both thorough and efficient and intend to see her once again for my current medical situation.

She actually walked out on me in the hospital after I asked her to explain in layman's terms what was happening.I was 8 mos. pregnant, and having severe abdominal pain. After hours of suffering, they found an ovarian cyst had burst. Dr. McKnight knew this and couldn't break it down to me in simple terms I could understand. Yes, she actually walked out on me because she was frustrated that I asked her to break it down to a level I could understand.No compassion whatsoever in this woman. Looking back, I should have sued her, but then again, why ruin the birth of my beautiful little girl because of this woman who calls herself a doctor?Steer clear of her and Physician's for Women if you want to maintain your calm during your pregnancy.

Worst experience I've ever had regarding a Dr. She NEVER responded to my 18 urgent messages. I had to wait 9 days till she finally decided to review my results and her nurse Mimi is horrible! Just Horrible! I HAD to wait 2 weeks to get my medicine refilled! All because "Dr. Mcknight" (and I use the word, "DR" very loosely) all because she just did not want to come in the office and did NOT have a back up doctor to to take her patients!! This information came directly from one of HER staff members!!! I called and begged for help...Then I WAS PUT ON HOLD for 21 minutes! Yes, you heard me right. Now I know why it was so easy to get an appointment with her, because she does NOT deliver patient care, follow up or a sense of "giving a hoot" about your health and has a horrible reputation. Please ladies, do NOT go see Alice Mcknight. I do not know about the other doctors in her office, so I can not give you an assessment.

I spent the last two years of my life worrying about my condition which resulted in me avoiding to see an OB GYN Dr. However, i finally saw a new Dr. who requested to see my previous record with Dr. McKnight. When he saw my record, he hold me I've been healthy since 2009. Dr. McKnight didn't bother to inform me of my normal results. So all i have to say is, I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT INTO HER CLINIC. The worst Dr. to be in the OB GYN field. where is the care and compassion????

Doesn't give a chance to talk or express any kind of concerns a patient may have. she wants to get straight to the procedure and she is out!

Dr. Mcknight is very good Dr, she is very front with everything, don't like to go around to tell you what is going on. also her nurse, who is very professional and calls you back with any question.
